So far... this is my favorite one. I wonder how much the replacement sealant costs? I assume it's for one time use?

My current car came with this - till the dealer explained it to me - then I bought the optional mini-spare wheel.

I can't remember the price of a replacement canister ($25??), but then he said that once it us used, generally the tyre must be replaced, even if it would normally have been plugged. The LATEX sealant can't generally be easily removed by the tyre guys. Similarly, the repair isn't going to work at all if the damage to the tyre is more than a small plug-able puncture.

Interesting. I had not thought of that.

Although I think I would want to replace the tire anyway (even if it was only a small plug-able hole).

But I would much rather do the tire repair kit as the video shows... than pull out jack and change a tire.

Typically the sealant and the entire tire need to be replaced after driving to a tire center/dealer.

I have heard horror stories about the fact that the allow wheel is ruined and cannot be cleaned from the sealant and needs to be replaced too - does any body have first hand experiences about it?

I wonder if the small compressor could be used instead also to simply inflate tires... that would be really helpful!

Ok, that IS a scary thought!

I wondered this as well, when watching the video.

I just checked the IPA video, it is ridiculous with all the beeping going on. Back up and sensors. It is insane.
I am really wondering what law or regulation requires them to keep that dann beep going on while reversing continuously. It is simply stupid and useless!!!

I bought the model three because it comes with a spare. Your only going to fix a slow leak with that repair kit. I have a similar pump and tire plugs I carry on my motorcycle. The plugs and plug installer would be good for the Prius owners without a spare to have in the car. The plug kit is made for use on the road. The compressor real slow. To fill the motorcycle tire takes about 10 minutes.

    It is :)

I know! I hate backup sensors for that reason (and why I prefer a camera over sonar).

Just for kicks, here's the 2016 BMW 7 Series' version of the parking assist. It's the next step up from Toyota's. It uses a deadman switch function and is fully automated (pedals, steering wheel and transmission). You need more faith in that system than Toyota's. Take a look at the video and you'll know what I mean (esp. the perpendicular park mode)

Well, the 740 is like what? 150k€. It should make coffee as well at that price point.
Considering you keep a finger on a button the all time, sure it is essentially fully automated, but it is not mentioned how close it can park. His definition of "scarily close" is not very helpful.
And this is the thing, i ordered mine with IPA, the sales guy told me it can park with a *total* of 50cm/20in space (front plus back). Assuming uniform split 25cm/10in space left is pretty impressive. If it is fast and you can operate it in the same way or faster than what you get doing it manually, then it is money well spent. Considering also that it is not really easy to see where the Prius ends.
Definitely the BMW has a more pleasant beep and I didn't hear a concert of beeps blowing your Brains and ears out.
Is it that more difficult or too much more expensive to make a more (single) pleasant beep?
Or is it annoyin and repetitive a Japanese thing. I'd really would like to know from the Prius design team where did they get this horrid idea of continuous beep in reverse (for all markets!).

If you have to replace one tire, you may have to replace 2 to preserve symmetry if the tires are sufficiently worn.

No but you can see it's fairly close in the video. I guess the next best thing is to head down to your local BMW dealer ;)

I agree, the beep is annoying. It's also present on their 6-speed manual cars like the Corolla XRS. I didn't hear it on the FR-S/GT 86 however.

I'm guessing it's a Japanese thing (which probably translated to a "it's a liability thing" in North America. I don't know about Europe and Australia).

I guess it's some Toyota's big boss idea and nobody dares to challenge him and tells him nobody wants to hear it after the single time (which is ok to have).
That's what I think. It's like the brakes software update for the Gen3 a few months it came out. You just needed to drive the car like 5 mins and you immediately saw it was braking not as expected (though still safely). Like nobody ever though of talking out loud to change the software asap. No, because somebody high would probably loose face or whatnot. Japanese big corporations company culture it seems. Too bad their internal politics is irritating customers worldwide...

I think that the repeated beeping is an homage to the Roadrunner cartoons. Japanese love cartoons.

The reverse beep doesn't bother me. It's intent is to make up for the return-to-centre shifter, remind you you're in reverse. It's a few seconds in my life, I muddle through.

    Now those plastic wheel covers...
