Have now had my new (used) Gen 3 2010 Prius II for just under 30 days now and as a former mechanic I must say I'm so happy about the purchase/investment. I haven't really kept up on cars or the hybrid and electric market since I stopped working on cars back in 08. Going hybrid or all electric just makes sense on all fronts. Less moving parts require less maintenance, meaning less money to maintain. It wasn't until after I made the purchase I started researching the market (I know, backwards) and came across the hypermiling concepts and learned I can get even better mpg with those techniques. I made it to the 600 MPT mark on my second tank of gas and am now on pace to easily do 700 maybe even 800 miles on the current tank. I'm from Tucson, Az and the conditions here are superbly ideal for hypermiling. Lots of flat roads, hills minimal with exceptions of outskirt rural areas. Most public roads 30-45mph limits. Running A/C in summer may certainly cut into those numbers but I'm taking full advantage of the weather for now. Logically it just doesn't make sense to buy all combustion engines anymore, I look forward to the near future where all electric vehicles come with more range. But even with the ones out now, it's absolutely feasible to use them as daily commuters in this area. Glad I found this website, very informative and helpful!! Thanks for all the testing many of you enthusiast do to help us others out. Curr current tank and pace last tank of gas numbers. Last photo was of current pace
Congrats on your new (to you) car!! I love the Sandy Beach Metallic color, sad they didn't continue that! The MPG in the Gen 3 is amazing. My current Gen 2 averages about 45 MPG driving normally, but my 2015 averages over 50 consistently, in almost every driving situation.
Congratulations on the crazy good mpg. My only suggestion: Fugedabout stretching tanks. Just concentrate on the high mpg, refuel when you still have a comfortable reserve.
go for it ! ! ! If a freak like me can do it in a Gen II; then it should be no problem in the larger Gen III's tank. And welcome!
Welcome. I agree with you in regards to hybrid cars. It's the new generation of motoring. Just look at how many other manufacturers are making hybrids.
Good choice. I've had mine about a year and love it. The color is great for not showing if it gets a little dirty to.
I also might add that due to the awesome modification of Prius cars, the idea of modding a Hybrid is cool and hip. I applaud all the younger folk in here for having the guts to mod their prius's in the face of Suburu's Honda's, Mazda's and other hip fast and quick cars of today. You guys are setting the trend!! Its ok to have a car that gets good gas mileage and mod the hell out of it. They don't have to be fast, just cool looking!! Thank you Prius Modders!!
I don't see the point to having a fast car when you get stuck at so many traffic lights. I'd much rather have a car that uses zero gas while I'm stuck at a red light than one that has 500HP and is slurping down gas while doing nothing.
