loud battery fan noise and rising battery temps are leading me to believe that i now have a commuter only vehicle, unable to safely navigate long trips. a 26 mile early morning commute with the engine link app and LYL® Elm327 WIFI Wirless OBD2 Car Diagnostic Reader Scanner Scan Tool reveals the following temps. return 26 mile trip reveals higher temps. just hate to breakdown 400 miles from home. are my assumptions warranted? thank
Lemme guess? You have a new toy this year? You didn't do this just prior to summer last year? Assuming the output you have is true to what Techstream and Torque Pro report, nothing to worry about AT ALL. Max fan setting is 6. It's LOUD. Here in AZ , those temps are pretty normal, and my fan will hit 5. You report 4. Those temps are in the high 40s to low 50s °C. Nothing the car can't handle. Don't be stingy with your A/C. Keep the interior comfortable. That's where the fan gets its cooling air. If you're trying to improve mpg by not running A/C, stop. You're hurting the battery. Look at your own numbers: 65°F inlet, 104-113°F outlet. vs 87°F inlet, 114-125°F outlet The cooling air is 22°F hotter but the battery is only 10-12°F hotter. Lastly, if you really wanna know the health of your HV battery, run the discharge test in my signature. If you can log the data with your reader, capture, SoC, Battery current and Min/Max voltages. You can actually calculate the capacity extracted. Steve
Delta V is the death nail for your traction battery. You can also look at block impedance if your software does this. usbseawolf2000 has custom PIDs for Torque, but the fact you are using a wifi reader makes me think you are using iOS, so no Torque for you. http://priuschat.com/threads/gen2-prius-custom-pids-for-torque-android-app-with-formulas.95370/ Here's how I like to worry. ; ) What gauges do you have on Torque? | PriusChat
No. Your deltaV is about 0.2V, which is typically fine. Again, is this a new toy for you? Looking at that second set of data, your cooling system might be compromised. Clean the fan.
flyboy09, what year and how many miles? Can you read the block impedances? Is your battery's vent blocked by dog hair?
Hi Flyboy09. If you're worried about the battery temperatures at least do the basic cooling fan maintenance. It's pretty straight forward. See here: Fur and dirt causing major battery problems | Page 2 | PriusChat
