Apparently Gen4 storage is much less roomy than previous versions.

Does anyone have any neat solutions or accessories for storing reading glasses/specs, demister cloths, ice scrapers, de-icer, boxes of tissues, parking disks, bird-spotting books, and all the other things people may want to have with them and have easily accessible from the front seats?

This would pretty much cover all the bases, at least according to the reviewers (the questions and answers cover a lot of the options):

[this was a link to the AutoExec Wheelmate Steering Wheel Attachable Work Surface Tray on Amazon. Apparently the website (or the mods) didn't like it and deleted it]

i would keep my bird spotting books in between the seat cushion and center console, for that quick in a jiffy when you spot an unrecognizable in a nearby tree.

And your binoculars too. There's nothing as thrilling as bird spotting at 70mph!

A square shape box of tissues fits well inside the console box between the front seats.

I can never understand what the purpose of a box of tissues serves in a car, please enlighten me ?

I can't speak for others, but it's helpful for me when I begin sobbing uncontrollably because I have lost the upper glove box I had in my Gen 3.

OK, seriously, when one is suffering from a cold?

Fair enough if you have a cold or hay fever, although there are cold/hay fever remedies out there now that stop you sniffling, I usually take those. But TBH I can't think of anything that spoils the interior of a car more than a box of tissues on the dash/console, except for the bag of used ones besides it, ugh !

I'm familiar with those remedies and, speaking as an expert on this, they don't entirely stop the flow for me. And when I'm sick, the tidiness of my car is furthest from my mind.

He's talking about tucking the box neatly away in the console between the seats. Much cheaper than buying those tiny packs of 10 tissues. I'm going to try putting a box of tissues in there right now!

All of which raises the question: why don't cars have built-in trash receptacles with covers, like little wastebaskets? My friend stored her old Saab at my place over the winter. I wondered why the car smelled funny inside until I opened the lid of that console between the seats and discovered a nearly-full cup of coffee/??? in there with a plastic lid on it. Black with a clot floating in it. It had been there for nearly 6 months. Yuk!!!

Of course there are people for whom the entire interior of their car is a wastebasket, so a built-in receptacle wouldn't help in those cases.

One really needs a place to store two pair.

You never know when you and your wife will be out and about in your Prius and suddenly you will get an email from a virtual stranger (but for whom you hold in extremely high regard and who just might own a boat moored on a nearby River) inviting you to view what Roger Torry Peterson describes as not only the most spectacular avian experience on the eastern seaboard, but perhaps the world.

Not sure why that popped into my head. Anyway, that was yet another great post JohnF. Oh, I also want to add that I have never seen a better looking dog.

How about a roof - top cargo carrier, but with a bottom door.
Open up the moon roof, pop open the door, tons of storage.

I do have a small trash container velcroed to the floor just behind (but far enough from the 12 volt adapter) the center console.
The seat back pouches seem unnecessarily narrow. Maybe something that hangs on the back of the seat ? Haven't found a good one yet.

My trash solution was a reusable grocery bag clipped to the passenger seat headrest with an s-biner. Simple and perfect.

Thank you thank you thank you, it's perfect! The tissue box can act as a sort of separator to create two mini bins, one in front of it and one behind, to organize stuff. And I moved some things to the door bins, and eliminated the five 10-packs of tissue I had in the console.

I know exactly whereof you speak. Through binoculars, it looks a bit like bird soup up there. Spectacular at dusk, and a different show at dawn. The only boats I own are racing shells, but there are evening cruises down there in late summer/early fall if you are interested in that. Best to reserve way in advance because they fill up. Let me know, I think you can PM me through PriusChat.

She thanks you! As you can tell from the photo, she runs things around here. And has done a good job training me. She's very smart, healthy, and tough, great personality, and loves to swim, jump off docks, and XC ski with me. If you want something like her, cross a rangy American yellow lab female with an amiable blond standard poodle male (I met her parents), and some of the puppies will have that coat. Females seem to run in the 55-60lb range, males 80-90.

I saw these things like "storage pouches" that you can hang over the top of the seat (facing front or back.)
I carry very few items up front... the small (or lack of) cubby holes has encouraged me to become a liberal minimalist. :ROFLMAO: (But no, I'm not voting for Bernie!)

I just put a medium-size plastic storage box/with snapping lid in the rear hatch area. Serves me just fine; Still plenty of room; Holds a few extra things like a quart of oil, tire gauge, LED flashlight, micro-fiber towels, Rain-X window cleaner, window squeegee, riot gear...

Thanks. I think that's a good idea, have always struggled to find a good place for my riot gear!

Does anyone know of a list or diagram of what storage there is in the front f a Gen4? Some folk have mentioned the "centre console", - does it still have one? Reviews I have read say things like "The large center console, which contained a useful cupholder but took up a lot of space, is gone."

There is a very tiny single compartment/single door glove box that will hold little else than a pair of thin driving gloves. The center console has an awkward side-opening lid and is somewhat deep but very narrow, again affording little useful storage space other than for a small flashlight, a small pad of paper and pencil and some loose change. I did pay for the black plastic overlay of the hideous white console and shift level panel. But at the bottom of the two cup holes, there's still a far-too-ugly white plastic visible so I fitted it with two cut-off black foam drink cozy's to further hide the white. The front doors both have a small amount of storage, but again it's very small and anything large chances on getting lost when you open doors in windy conditions, or if you move the doors vigorously without completely closing them. The dash area is considerably smaller than it was in my 2006 and really in spite of new claims of increased visibility, I do not find that to be true at all. Visibility is the same...no worse, no better. There is no 'hidden' storage drawer at the front of the console like there was in my 2006, nor is there a nice hidden compartment in the left rear corner of the trunk area. That was very useful in hiding my wallet, etc when I chose not to carry it. The back of seat pockets are very constrained unlike previous gen's back of seat pockets. Though they will hold a map or thin road atlas. The overhead sunglass dropdown compartment is a bit roomier, and also a bit flimsier than the one in my 2006 Prius, meaning you can store a larger dimension pair of sunglasses in there. That's it! No additional storage unless you wish to put a plastic box in the passenger compartment/back seat area, on the floor areas or in the rear hatch area.

    Now this is just silly!

My glove box: a "D" cell Maglite, my Carista module, Toyota warranty books, a Cordura case for my registration, insurance card, and other papers, and, yes, a pair of gloves. And lots of room left over!

My center console box: normal square box of tissues, bottles of Purex hand wash, suntan lotion, and eyeglasses cleaner, a tube of hand lotion, notebook with two pens, comb, sunglasses (expensive prescription, not going to risk them in an overhead compartment), lots of room left over

    Front door pockets:
Left: large cleaning/dusting cloth, ziplock bag of eyeglasses cleaning tissues
    Right: nothing so far

    Front seat pockets:
Left: a stack of maps and a folding umbrella, dial type tire pressure gauge, room to spare
Right: empty, thinking of moving the manuals there, or perhaps first aid kits

Under front part of driver's seat: two small first aid kits

Under front of passenger's seat: seatbelt harness for dog to strap her to the seatbelt on the highway

Rear door pockets: left, nothing so far; right, a ziplock of spare dog poo bags

Snow and ice scrapers are under the cargo area. Left jumper cables at home: heavy, never needed them. Was storing all my boat carrying straps, etc under the cargo area in my Gen 3, realized it was silly to carry them around all year when I used them mainly in the fall, and just a few times.

Quite a lot of stuff fits nicely into the car with room to spare. I think your complaints are way overstated.

Instead of a box of tissues, a cheaper option, use a toilet roll, hang it over the white sanitary ware

Someone please do this. Take a picture of that and post it. Let Toyota know how us anti-porcelain interior people feel about this.
