Toyota read this - what's my prime thought?

i do to, at 24 cents a kilowatt, it would be pretty easy to break-even quickly. it's just not sunny enough around here.

 

You do know solar panels don't need full sun to work. They work in cloudy conditions as well. Just not as efficient of course.

 

yes, it's not the climate, but all the trees around my house. i would have to cut a lot of timber, and most of it is south, on someone else's property.

The call for wireless charging seems to be mostly coming from those that don't have a plug in. As an option, it could draw more sales, but I think many would pass after seeing the cost of installing the charger.

People always want more. In light of the entire package, the EV range does seem low for the Prime, but it will come down to price.

I think the solar charging will not be of enough benefit to justify the cost for most.

Many crash tests show that the middle back seat is the safest location for passengers to sit, in the event of a collision. Just sayin' . . . .

I seem to remember being asked about range, and I said 20 would be good. However, I was not able to tell them that I did not want to sacrifice the flat cargo area, and would like to have as much range as possible with a flat cargo area. The Prime is probably not going to be a good fit for me.

 

What do you carry as cargo that would benefit from the flat?

Our needs have been with respect to simply carrying long objects, nothing tall or that couldn't be easily lifted out.

 

i carry recycling bins which almost touch the window now, and i have to remove my spare to fit them. i wanted a little more room, not less.

so, from the 4 million comments about our plugins for the last 4 years, they were able to deduce more ev miles and all ev running? that's just brilliant. but who ever thought to say, 'don't take away the rear bench seat or hatch space to accomplish it!' never could have foreseen it. that must have come up in 'focus groups'.

 

Makes you wonder what people said when the bench seat in front started to be replaced by bucket seats.

What do people want... a place for a smaller person to sit or conveniences like the front offers?

I personally like the idea of getting a center-console in back and the possibility of heated seats for those passengers.

 

I am sort of expecting the Chrysler minivan plug-in to have 2nd row heated bucket seats, because that's what mine looks like already (Chrylser did not let VW use the fold away bench seats in the Routan variant). Of course I still got another seat 3rd row (unheated).

 

Wow! Heated seats in the back? Sign me up! They already peaked my interest when there was talk of a heated steering wheel.

everyone wants something different, but i don't recall anyone asking for rear seat space to be reduced, or adding a console. that's called making lemonade out of lemons. personally, i'm more bothered with the hatch.

 

Do they still have the same space in all of the Gen 4 Prius models? I'm thinking they still have time to make the floor flat, somehow. That may not be enough if there isn't enough clearance in the Gen 4 Prius too.

This seems like the last time we made comments about the Plug-in Test Mule they came out with before the current model. Do you want selectable EV or more EV range? So instead of the 5.2kWh battery we ended up with a 4.4kWh battery. I'm thinking the general comments are in the form, "So do you want a fifth seat or an 8.8kWh battery?"

I'll still go for the 8.8kWh battery.

 

agreed, but think about it this way. toyota was designing a whole new prius from the ground up. the reason they couldn't give us more range in the pip, was because they had to use the existing platform. what? they could have done the same thing and stuffed 8 kWh in there too.

now, it seems they designed gen 4 lift back without giving any thought to prime. then, it was like 'oh-oh, where are we gonna put this battery?' so, they decided to just stuff an 8 kWh battery in there. i don't see that as 'listening to the customers.'

 

How about the seats offering a massage mode?

 

now you're talking. if only i could sit in the back while driving. but then i'd probably fall asleep.
