Greetings. I am a proud owner of a 2010 Prius V, born in Japan, but moved to the USA right after birth (the car, not me). I'm a native North Carolinian born and living in Charlotte. Thanks for letting me be part of your Chats.
Is this where I ask a question? Yesterday while driving my 2010 V, I noticed that when I let off the gas, it felt as if I had it in "brake" mode and it would slow down. I was in regular driving mode, not in brake, or power setting and the brake pedal had been released. I noticed the instrument that indicates where the power-drive (?) is coming from looked to be only between the electric motor and the battery. The car has 72,000 miles and has been regularly serviced. How serious might this be? Thanks
If you were in cruise control, this happens a lot. If I speed up to pass a vehicle, once I let off the gas i rapidly decelerate to my set speed. It will brake to keep my set speed going down hill. Outside of CC, I do not notice it as often. (eventually you will want to move to the gen 3 forums)

congrats! what you are experiencing is normal. when you let off the gas, the motor generator is regenerating electricity back into the battery. to experience the difference, drive about 30 mph on a quiet road, let off the gas then slip it into neutral, and you'll feel the car take off in a glide. you can also accomplish this by slightly depressing the gas until the gauge shows you are not regenerating, or powering the car. it's hard to hold it there, so, a little bit to the right, in ev, is fine. i'm not familiar with the v gauges, but if you have the hsi, showing where power is, you can see exactly whats happening. all the best!
Thanks for that, unfortunately I wasn't in "cruise". I know what you are describing though, and its feels similar, but my gauge implies that only the electric motor and battery are powering the vehicle right now. Thanks for the Gen 3 forum tip also.
Thanks Bisco. Ive had this car since it was new and know what you are describing, but this is different. I think the engine quit contributing to the trio of sources. It still drives, but no "arrows" flowing from the engine part of the display I have. They still go back and forth from electric motor and battery. I have parked it and may have taken to dealership this morning...ugh. I love the car...first potential big repair. Thanks again
not sure i follow. forget the display for a moment, when you step on the gas, does the engine fire up?
