    Good morning everyone,

So i just purchased a pretty sweet 2013 Prius Persona.

My question is that my mileage is never gets near the 50/mpg at all. I've tried the different hypermiling methods (pulse, drift, etc) I keep on trying the slow starts (when i can).

My commute is from the Sherman oaks area to Westwood 3 times a week but i make weekly visits to Camarillo from Sherman Oaks as well.

The best i've gotten is 45/47 gal.

Is this something you guys are seeing as well? I'm averagine 400-420/miles a tank.

Trying really hard to get into the 600 mile club but yeah not sure where I can do next.

    Thank you

I think my lifetime calculated mpg on my old 2015 Persona was 42-43 give or take. I sold it with something like 12k miles on it.

I mostly didn't drive it hard and ran over inflated tires.

Sorry i forgot to add that im averaging 35/gal. I'll check today my tires PSI to confirm.

The reason i ask is that i rode in my friends 2015 II and she was getting 45/gal and she drives pretty recklessly. quick acceleration hard stops averaging 80mph on the highway and never in eco-mode.

I tried driving like her one week and i was getting high twenties that way.

    Thanks.

I was initially the trip computer... but i just checked my last fuel receipt.. i got liek 420 miles and only filled 9.6 gallons. so yeah maybe my trip computer is off cause that would be 43mpg from my potato math.

The trip computer reads approx 5-7% high consistently. FYI.

Note that you'll lose 3-5 mpg on the Persona because of the 17" wheels.

yeah i really like the 17's but looking through other posts people have issues (weight) and replacement (spendy?).

I'll post some updates when i go through a couple fill ups and update the tire psi's as well later this week.

Thank you all for the advice.

Also be sure to watch the darn curbs, they are easy to screw up even with the rubber tire lip.

Hi and welcome to Priuschat. There are many factors that can contribute to fuel economy. Quoted from other threads, the 17 wheels will hit you about 3 MPGs. What are the characteristics of your commute? If it's mostly highway 70+ MPH then your mileage will be lower. If your commutes are short, that will affect mileage, the ICE doesn't operate warm enough. But getting mid forty MPGs is not bad.

Alright so i did a fill up last night and the math brought it to 37.4 mpg.

So my daily commute varies. I commute from Sherman Oaks and Westwood. So instead of taking 405 back and forth it weaves me through these hills like Beverly Glen, Roscomare, and/or Sepulveda. It's usually a 30-45min trip with sharp inclines half way. I think maybe 5-10 min after I start in i get to the proper fourth stage from my drive because i'll notice the engine completely shut off if my battery is more than 1/2 full. Ok so from what i've seen on other posts and other commutes (santa clarita to hollywood) and the type of terrain (mostly flat / hilly) the MPG i'm seeing is expected.

    Thank you all so much.

Don't feel too bad. My lifetime average for three years on Fuelly is 41 mpg. I just filled up today and it was 36.2 mpg! yikes the worst I have ever had! But I mostly have just done short trips up and down the hills and very little fwy miles on this latest tank. The best I ever got was 45.6.

I just picked up a 2013 Persona CPO. Half way through my first tank and am excited to see the result. Been doing pretty light cruising to work and back so far.

My first tank was 51mpg calculated using the fuelly site. This included a 70 mile drive home with one of the front tires inflated to 23psi (I guess the dealer overlooked that during the prep). I inflated all 17 inch tires to 34psi so hopefully I can squeeze out a little more during the next tank.

I have a 2015, stock rims and tires. I consistently get 45-47, and an occasional 48-49. I have the option of either streets or the Freeway to get to work. The Freeway drops it to the 45-47 range. Street driving brings it up to 48-49.

Our (calculated) lifetime average with 17" Michelin Pilots is 4.9 liters per 100 km, converts to 48 mpg. There was one member here, with 17's, in the high 50's. Not sure how though.

Disclaimers: use a block heater, rarely if ever over 80 kmh, minimum AC use, switch to 15" X-Ice in winter (get about the same mpg), and driving strategically, abiding by speed limits, etcetera.

With non LRR 15" tires (Subaru dealer installed) I get 44-48 calculated MPGs from mostly highway driving at speeds 70-75 MPH. I do hypermiling when I can.

About 50 miles per day, 5 days a week. It's mostly flat here in central VA. I'm driving it a bit more aggressive this tank with more A/C since it's getting warmer and the pollen is out of control.
