It appears that my 2nd Gen Prius (2009) has a significant leak in its Inverter Coolant Reservoir. Has anyone had this problem before? If so, was it an expensive fix?
Was the car in a front end accident that impacted the reservoir? Replacing it would not be an expensive fix unless you ignore the problem, which results in the inverter overheating and failing. The reservoir costs $34 plus shipping here: HYBRID COMPONENTS for 2009 Toyota Prius It is possible that a coolant hose has failed or is loose, instead of the inverter reservoir having a leak.
Yeah, it was in a front end accident. Everything seemed fine for a while, but the lights came on and I checked things out. The reservoir needs to be fully replaced, and that seems about it for now. Thanks for the info! I was searching high and low for a replacement part.
So the hose to the front will be cool fluid from the water pump, and the fitting to the bottom/side will bolt to the inverter. There are two structural bolts as well.
