There is a switch under the dash that disables SKS functions. Sounds like it's in the wrong position.

Just followed this proceedure to program an ebay key - worked perfectly.
The ignition programming took two goes as I forgot to leave the key in the first time but rewatched the video and now that first key with the cracking buttons has become our emergency spare.

    Thank you !!

A big thank you to OP!

I own a 09 Prius with only one fob which was purchased used in 2012. We thought about getting another fob from an autoshop back then, but it was too expensive($350+).

Accidentally stumbled on this thread, and gave it a shot with a fob sold by a Toyota dealer on Amazon. Got the package today, and gave it a shot directly with the procedure B. It worked immediately on the first try!

Now I just have to find somebody to copy the key for the new fob. This is such a great relief to know the car is whole again!

Any place that cuts keys can copy the key. Home Depot would be a good choice.

    Thank you for the tips!

I was just thinking maybe either ACE Hardware or Home Depot for the key copying, and also tried to look for others' experiences online. Knowing that's the right direction makes me feel assured.

Heading there first thing tomorrow! Thanks again!

It took several tries, but we were finally able to program the fob for our 2007 Prius. Timing was our problem. For Part A, we origianlly were not opening and closing the door fast enough. We had to open and close the door REALLY fast, only allowing one beep from the door alarm. If we were slower and more than one beep sounded, the procedure was not successful. And in Part B, speed is also important. When the directions say "within 3 seconds" it means just that. You don't have time to stop and read the directions between the steps. Know in advance what the next step is and you'll be fine! Excellent directions!

Did you do procedure A? If not, you need to do that procedure as well.

Thanks, just did it after your reminding!

Is Procedure A particularly for a possible fob out of juice scenario? Almost thought Procedure B was enough...oops!

No, Procedure A is to program the fob to start the car when it is in the slot and allow it to be used for the door locks. Procedure B is for the smart key functions.

Worked for us: 2004 Gen-II prius with SKS. Procedure A worked right away but had to repeat Procedure B a few times before it worked. Make sure the SKS button underneath the steering wheel is on (pushed out) and that the batteries in the FOBs have at least the nominal voltage (3V). Bought the new FOB on Amazon for a little over $100. Re-used old mechanical key.

Does anyone know if you can use a non Toyota key fob? Like a Mercedes or BMW?

How many SKS keys does the Prius support?

I have 2 keys working currently and would like to make a 3rd key.

    I have a 2005 Gen-II Prius

Worked great on eBay purchased key. Local Toyota dealer cut the key for free!

Thank you very much (y)(y)(y)(y) for this detailed dance off instructions. As crazy as it sounds - it did worked fine with the brand new key I bought online from a Toyota dealer. However I had to repeat PROCEDURE A - 4 times to get it working. PROCREDURE B worked like a charm in 2 tries (step 9). In PROCEDURE A - in Step 3 when the Red anti-theft light remains on it blinked at more frequent interval than normal when it was on the fob programming mode than the normal Anti theft mode.

Thanks so much for this! Had to run thru it twice, but it worked on my 2nd Gen 2007 Prius.

Awesome. I used one badly beaten up master to program two new keys today. Part A worked flawlessly, did it for both new keys before moving on to part B. Part B got a little strange at 9B- I needed to push and hold new fob twice. I think. Also I'm not sure if I did 10 correctly, but both keys have worked for more than 1 hour, so I suspect I'm good to go. Huge, huge thanks to those making this possible. I've been a huge fan of Prius and will be very tempted to get a new Prius V at some point to go along with my 2018 Tesla III :)

Howdy USNAVYSTG! I appreciate your long dedication to this subject...much obliged, indeed.
I've run into a stone wall on one of the last steps, and I can't seem to surmount it. Bought a brand new smart key from a dealer, programmed it to turn ON and OFF our 2008 Prius, have gone through the process with success of the Smart Key steps UNTIL 9C: when I press the Lock & Unlock simultaneously on my NEW fob, then press the Lock, the doors go through the lock/unlock cycle twice instead of once. And it has ended this way multiple times...even if I press the Lock & Unlock simultaneously twice as you suggest for some users. I just can't seem to get only a single lock/unlock cycle and then success :( Any thoughts? Thanks for your insight!
