Check Hybrid System warning code P0A7A and P0A94

The car is a Prius 2 2012 about 3.5 years old 48000 miles on it so far nothing ... I did the recall realted to the inverter while back.

I was driving normally about 30-40 miles an hour not accelerating when I felt a jolt and Checking Hybrid System stop in a Safe Place notice came up

two yellow on the left side and two on right hand side the engine and the break thing.

I stopped pulled the above codes P0A7A and P0A94with scangauge ... did not clear them. Not sure if that can pull subcode or not (or how to do that)


Stop the car then restarted it no change.

Looks like I lost the hybrid system engine won't stop and felt weak also could feel that no regen break ...

Good thing I was only about two miles from my dealership so I chanced to drive the car there and now waiting what they say ... 125 diag fee (creditable toward the fix and nothing if it is covered by hybrid warranty)

 

So far I was told it is the inverter and they are ordering the part and promised it back for Tuesday. But also confirmed that all the repair is covered by warranty.

But dealership was not willing to provide loaner ... is that normal ??? I HAD to rent we do not have a second car. Should I expect Toyota to pay for it? Is it worth to call Totyota USA ? it will be 140 at least if they do fix it by Tuesday ...

 

I do not think the break down was unsafe car was driveable felt s little heavy ... but I had 80% or so charge by the time I got back to the dealer ship about 2 miles the battery was down two in the purple ... so I wonder what was really broken the transmission including the motor-generator or some part of the inverter resonsible to charge the battery... but the part creating the 12V DC/DC clearly worked since 12V part was working just fine and that is not coming from 12V battery when car in Ready ... puzzled ... car has less then 50K on it ..all maintenance done also the recalll and I am a pretty conservative driver ...

 

They agreed to get their local rental partner Hertz giving me their "corporate" rate about about $32 a day (the smallest they had was a KIA something) ... but this still could be expensive if they can get the part ... I am depended on the prius to go to work daily so I am stuck ...

 

overall 60% city 40% highway (or whatever we can call the parkways around NYC where speed limit is 50 or so ) and I drive pretty conservatively no high speed rearly reaching even 65 ! the car is a daily driver no other vehicle so the pain for rental.

I used partial cover the air intake and full during late Dec to Febr, all year around monitored the temp with scangauge. I also regularly check 12V battery. For a month before the winter measured it daily (around the time the car was about 3 years old) unfortunately it is not garaged (only during the day in the corporate HQ) ..

Any other info ?

 

Isnt the hybrid drive-train covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles ? and the inverter is now for 15 after the recall ??

I am out of the general warranty of course and did NOT buy the extended one. Because I was trusting toyota ... guess I am one of the unlucky one with this. I mean there are many Gen3 on the road with a lot more miles then mine and my miles are pretty much on flat terrain not many hills around here.

 

OK I got the car back this morning no cost to me except the rental for four days :-(

I am attaching the invoice for information for others. It list one more code P324E – MG ECU power relay intermittent circuit which did not show up when I was scanning with my scanner...

There are a list of parts but no price tag since warranty... also indicates 2.5 hours labor which doesn't seem to bad I will open the hood later to see any difference hopefully the cooling was reattached right ... etc.

 

WOW how "usual" is this ?

I was hoping to keep the car but if the inverter blows every 3.5 year I may change my mind....
