Since we have no seperate area to discuss such things as of yet, I thought I'd share here.

My first event this year is May 1st in Verona, Va. I'll be fielding my '15 Prius in HS (H-Street) class. This is the class for essentially every car that isn't a sports car lol. This class only allows VERY few modifications. It also requires street legal tires, treadwear 200AA or higher.

I've ordered my tires, Bridgestone Potenza RE -71R's in 205/50/15. They'll be mounted on OE Prius wheels. A TRD rear sway bar is on its way as well.

I will be posting pics to this thread of mods and events. If anyone is in that area feel free to come out! Details at brr-scca.org

I thought about doing auto cross. I want to run full stock to see where the car is at. All I have are the TRD rims with the stock replacement tires. I'll have to see if I need new tires because I didn't know you need required tires. Image1459991403.138091.jpg Image1459991417.481775.jpg

Just put these in for the fun of it...haha.

Well you don't NEED tires to run but, if you want to be competitive in any class you need the best allowable tire type for that class.

Oh okay. I misread your statement. They have an even coming up April 10th. Hopefully I can make it out there(locally here in South Carolina)

You definitely should. It's a lot of fun. If nothing else it greatly helps with confidence in car control and how the car will behave at its limits.

It's also great when you can beat up on sports cars with a Prius lol.

This is my last Prius. Essentially stock but with Hankook z214's for competition. VERY sticky tire!

I hate doing tight curves with 15" rims that's why I switched to 17"

Why? I actually hate the feel and lack of responsiveness with my 17s. It may be the OE tires though. I drove a Prius with 15s yesterday and it felt much better in corners.

Ok registration is in for my first event this year. So far I'm up against a '96 240sx in my class.
More hp and 300lbs lighter than a Prius....

I haven't tryed it but my friend that does autoX mentioned to me to try to disconnect front stabilizer for less understeer. This is if you have a rear stabilizer.

I tried that on my last Prius (2011) and didn't like the body roll. Made the car feel too sloppy. I dial in about 2 degrees negative camber and add air pressure to the rear tires and she pivots nicely.

Do you put it in maintenance mode when you race?

Oh yes. Would be useless to run with everything active. Plus it keeps the engine running which eliminates the short time the car needs to start the ICE when getting back on the throttle.

Any broken parts from all the years you've been autoXing the prius? I really want to try autoXing some day but don't want to break the car.

Nope not a thing. Really nothing to break. It does wear heavily on tires which is why I buy a dedicated set just for autox.

My car is lowered 3", I'm concerned about the axle bending too much while cornering. You think the axles can handle it?

This is just a inquiry, I have no idea if this is advantageous or even possible.

The Prius v has a 'shorter' final drive ratio than the liftback. If you do not need more than 105 MPH, it may be quicker off the line with a swap for a v 'rear end'.

    Prius Liftback 3.27:1
    Prius v 3.70:1.

As in the cv axles in front or the torsion beam in the rear? The cv axles are made to travel up and down with the suspension. The rear torsion beam is made to twist under lateral load. Nothing you're going to do on an autocross course is any different than say vehicle or object avoidance in everyday driving. My '08 was lowered on coilovers with front and rear sway bar upgrades, no issues.

    SM-G900V ?

I've actually considered this for a future mod. Speeds rarely go over 65mph on course, and even then it's momentary. Acceleration out of the corners is what is needed most.

Nah they'll be fine. Plenty of range of motion in the cv joints to allow for suspension travel.
