I'm going now through 55K service for my 2010 Prius Five and got an early heads up from service advisor that next service will be a big one, so I asked a quote for it.

    Here we are:

    Recommended Maintenance (60K3) Preferred Service
    - Replace Engine Oil and Oil Filter (0w20)
    - Reset Oil Replacement Reminder Light
    - Rotate Tires, Inspect Wear and Adjust Tire Pressure
    - Perform Multi-Point Inspection
    - Replace Cabin Air Filter (Includes Frigi Fresh Service)
    - Replace Engine Air Filter
    - Install Premium Universal Coolant Conditioner
    - Install Windshield Washer Solvent
    - Check Installation of Driver-Side Floor Mat
    - Perform Throttle Body Cleaning Service
    - Drain and Refill WS Automatic Transmission Fluid
    - Install Premium Engine Oil and Fuel System Conditioners
    - Service Includes 180-day Complimentary Roadside Care with Tire Hazard Coverage (Activation Required)
    - Replace Brake Fluid (Hybrid)
    - Replace Front Wiper Blade Inserts
    - Perform Crankcase Oil Cleaning Service
    - Perform Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaning Service

    Total: $699.54

My conditions are 70% highway traffic, no winters, no racing.

Your advise is requested what needs to be done. I'm thinking about purchasing air filters (engine & cabin) over Internet and get them installed by myself (not sure if it's easy to install engine one). I don't want to mess around and change oil by myself, but do want to exclude unnecessary and costly maintenance.

My 55K service is just $29.95 today for tire rotation, pressure check & multipoint inspection.

60k = oil and filter, tyre rotation, air and cabin filter inspect, clean or replace as necessary. you have a maintenance guide that came with the car. it was designed to educate and keep you from being ripped off.
would hurt to do the inspection, especially if they actually get down and dirty with the rear brakes.

if the tranny fluid hasn't been changed, now would be a good time if you pal on keeping the car beyond 150-200k.

    total cost: $250.(y)

Replace the wiper blades whenever they wear out yourself. Change the air filters yourself although it is a bit harder in the Gen3 than the Gen2. Top off coolant, washer, and brake fluid as needed.

I agree that changing the tranny fluid is the only thing that should be done when it is in the shop for the next oil change.

All that stuff is easy peasy to do yourself. If you're interested in learning. Especially on this car. It's a fun way to get to know your car =) If you did it yourself, you'd probably spend under $100 in parts.

As far as adding "conditioner" to the coolant or checking the floormat. those are gimmicky. Nothing should ever be in your coolant system but genuine toyota coolant.

Their long list ranges from legitimate to extremely questionable.

What's "Frigi Fresh Service"? As long as the oil change includes legitimate oil, you're unlikely to need "Premium Engine Oil ... Conditioner" or "Crankcase Oil Cleaning Service," whatever they are.

They're REALLY loading on the extras, and at the same time strangely remiss on some, brake inspection for example.

If you want to follow Toyota's schedule, and EVERY time you deal with them they're pushing all these extras, maybe time to look for another, more down-to-earth dealership?

A couple of the extra items, brake fluid change and transaxle fluid change, are very worthwhile to do. But they shouldn't be pushing them.

Hi Bkman, I'm also from Fremont, CA:) My 2011 Prius currently has 59K miles. I'm debating whether to do full 60K service or simply an oil change at the dealer. We have several dealers around Bay Area, could you tell me which dealer quoted you $699.54 so that I could avoid them? Thanks.

sounds like a good idea for someone who has too much money (but would that person drive a Prius in the first place?).
for anyone else i say 3 words: DIY.

Well, I don't want to mess around with oil, absent skills and lack of time. Did it last time in mobile service in Milpitas for $63 - parts & labor

Just watch all of my videos, its not that hard to work on the Prius yourself. Trust me, in the long run, you will be saving a lot more money than spending it at the dealerships. There isn't anything special you are doing to these vehicles that hasn't been done on conventional cars. The only thing that is different is the brake flush. Buy some tools, jacks and jack stands or ramps and go underneath your car. Anyone with time over the weekends can do all this maintenance 100% of the time. If you own a Prius, I would assume that you are trying to save money, so doing these stuff yourself will save you a lot of $$$$. Plus if you have questions, there is plenty of people on this forum that will help you. This forum is a great source for help if you need it. So please stop throwing your money away... and if you are, I am willing to take it from you for free :)

That's how much I paid Milpitas to do my 60k service which comprises the first 4 items you listed. I did the air filters myself. Everything else on that list is not in the owners manual so I didn't do it.

$699? OMG. I have got to believe that the owner of Freemont Toyota also owns a Myke Diamond plumbing franchise! Hire a teenager with dirt under his/her/its nails to do the work while you watch. $20 + parts.

Hi mmmodem, when you said Milpitas, do you mean Percey Toyota? I think I would do the same to have the dealer change the oil change. I could change the filters myself.

Hi Bkman, thank you for the info. I have been using Fremont Toyota too, because it's convenient. I don't plan to spend $699 to do the 60K service there or anywhere.

Hi wjtracy, Luscious Garage is located in San Francisco, 30+ miles north of Fremont. It's not practical to go there, due to very bad Bay Area traffic.

    Dear All,
I'm trying to find an independent Hybrid mechanic shop in South Bay (i.e., Fremont, Hayward, Union City, Milpitas, Sunnyvale, Mtn View) area. If you guys know any dependable hybrid mechanic, please let me know. Thanks.

If you don't want to go DIY, you should go to Luscious Garage. They are awesome. They won't sell you this "crankcase conditioner" crap. They are a very high integrity garage. Yes, it's a drive, but the little extra time is well worth it.
