Ooooohh! I'm thinking of a practical and silly use of Photoshop to make that happen. :sneaky:

Well that and they don't have a production car to actually do measurements with. Which I believe is a requirement for EPA estimates.

But having said that Toyota is no Ford, Honda or Hyundai who have had to readjust their EPA estimates. Just sayin'

When PiP1 came out we were also excited because it appeared even then Toyota EV mode was superior as far as Mile/kWhr, so I'd be thinking double it.

Toyota still has time to tweak the system before the Prime goes into production like it did with first Plug-in Prius.

For instance if they allowed the heat pump to operate while recharging (or right after charging has finished) if using an L2 charger, I'm sure it would help with preconditioning the battery before it gets hit with cold weather in the winter. I know I use my remote A/C in the summer when recharging because I know it helps keep the battery cool. This is especially true if I have to go back out again and am recharging it for another trip.

My statement was not meant as a knock on Toyota or even the EPA.
Just what I think is the best approach to using EPA estimates, and the best approach to actually finding out how efficient a vehicle actually IS in the real world.
It's nice to live in a time, where so much information, from the owning public is readily available.

It will never make more than expected 22 miles and having the experience for 3 years with the first 2012 PiP, let me tell you that if you do not hipper mile, those 22 electric range in winter time will become a merely 18.

You're speculating based on Toyota's estimation as well as everybody else. Yeah I'm not sure though what 22 miles is good for at what speed or condition. According to inferno's logic and calculations, in general the mpge doesn't fit. I've regularly been able to get about 11 miles (the distance from my daughter's house to mine) with only 8.8 miles left on EV and it's mostly 55 mph between our houses. Winter is a whole different set of challenges for any car, particularly BEVs/PHEVs. During summer my 11 miles EV shows and gives me 12.6 regularly or 9.6 in the winter. And I'm sure for some of us here, that 22 miles will somehow expand to 30 or more based on how they drive. That's based on anecdotal evidence from multiple members of PriusChat.

I am very sure it will have more than just 22 miles range !
It is ratet with more than 50 Km EV range in Europe and although our testing procedure is a bit more unrealistic than yours, it will not be 18 km less than claimed !
Toyota seems to be using some kind of understatement strategy in the US lately.
Look at the new gen. 4 Prius, everybody by now should know that it is capable of getting way more than "just" 52 mpg !

My 4-year experience with my 2012 PIP makes me skeptical sbout the Prius Prime. It consistently gets only 7 or 8 EV miles on a full charge. The dealer claims there's nothing wrong with the car. I don't drive aggressively at all, but urban San Diego where I normally drive is hilly, and that takes its toll on EV miles. And it could be that start and stop urban driving hurts too. I'd love to see the Prius Prime get 22 EV miles in real world driving, but I'll believe it when I see it. I'll still like my PIP, by the way.

I am somewhat worried that my round trip daily drive of only 2.2 miles might inadvertently form a low mileage memory for the Prime, assuming I will buy one. Is this thinking valid?
