I'm pretty sure that either "his" trip meter or "her" trip meter was not zeroed out at time of purchase thus causing both Eco's to not really be staring thier lives on an even playing field! If either had any miles on them from spirited test drives, idling in the lot, etc, this could greatly affect the starting point for tracking mpg.

Tomm go and top off both tanks, zero out trip A, let trip B always run (never reset) as a lifetime mpg guage and then recommence testing, err commuting....:)

    And pls report back..

drove home in traffic with ac on today. 27miles. 74mpg. It was much warmer today than the previous days . Perhaps it is just the temperature + break in period after all.

    Hydrogen would be even better.
It is the number 1 gas after all.:)

If you want to share your results, use Fuelly for tracking the fuel economy. There is the option to track off the odometer without concern of resetting or accidentally resetting the trip ones as it were. Plus, they have phone apps that can sync with the site.

He is noble and a gas of singular atoms. Condensed and chilled, a really super liquid. Just this past year, He helped find the long missing Higgs Bison. The Sun and stars convert dangerous H2 into the noble He.

I couldn't help singing the song from They Might Be Giants: "Why does the sun shine" as I read this.

Yes, He is great. Used it to cool our SS NMR in grad school. Wheeee

If you filled your tires with helium would they make a strange Donald Duck sound?

No, but they'd lose pressure faster than they do with air. Your car would be very slightly lighter.

If you want bullet-proof distance for calcs, just use the odometer. Still do the tripmeter, but just for feedback and as a cross check.

The main odometer is King. Using any other measuring sequence allows for rounding errors and creates opening for distorting the data.

Update: break-in is complete and the car is getting better mileage. It seemed to change at about 600 miles, which is what I noticed on the first car.

Having two of anything can get maddening, especially if you're a bit OCD: I recall a bike I had with twin exhaust pipes; one side was always whiter, the other sootier. Had me checking the carbs, way too much.
