This is a confusing response. GM creates and markets a second generation Volt nationwide. You call this stupid. Toyota does not market the PiP nationwide and ceases production before a second generation is available. You call this brilliant.

This is not a discussion of Toyota's quality, but a discussion of all the roadblocks Toyota issues to prevent me from buying one. I can only conjecture if Toyota went to great lengths to ensure you could not have gotten your PiP, you would call them the smartest company in the universe. I obviously don't see the situation the same way you do.

BTW I wonder if there could be multiple ranges (battery size options)

I missed that. All I see is that it's a Prius. Everyone seems to be speculating it's a PiP.

I'm guilty of ad hominems myself, but lets criticize ideas only, and not the people advocating them.

It's actually a discussion of how many EV miles you think the next gen PiP will have, but I understand how enough tangent thoughts end up in arguments.

Toyota Reveals Prius Family of Vehicles at the North American International Auto Show | Toyota

Note the official Toyota statement of the last paragraph:
"The Plug-in will be initially offered in 14 West and East Coast states (Arizona, California, Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, Virginia and New Hampshire) where nearly 60 percent of all Prius models are currently sold. Availability in all remaining states will be a year later."

The range of the second generation PiP is a worthwhile discussion topic...if you can buy it. Will it be for every state or just a handful? That question is not really a tangent.

It probably is a PiP. Just saying we've got nothing direct from Toyota saying it is.
That thread is getting pretty long but OP started with this question.

The only person saying PIP in that link is not with Toyota. I don't care one way or the other, but it just seems like we're running with reporters' speculation.

I'd suspect the tail light of a 2nd PIP iteration would look just like the 2016 Prius.

    I voted for 18-21miles because:

    A) I think that's about all the spare room the Gen4 will have to accommodate the larger battery yet not intrude on cabin space.

    B) That's the range on my CMax and it works well. For instance, I only used about 20 gallons of gas last year of which most was burned on out of town trips while nearly 100% of city driving was torquey, silent EV.

Danny's saying it is, I guess it is. Just not seeing it in those news articles.

Bingo. I mean, look at the initial numbers that the Gen 4 owners are getting. We'll get a better idea once we average it out over a year but they are promising and so far are matching or beating the 1G PiP

    Not officially

Trust us, when we say it's most likely the PiP. (By us I mean Danny and PriusChat) Toyota did say "the next mechanical marvel" in the Prius lineup. PriusChat will be in NY as Danny has tweeted.

Yes, of course Toyota isn't confirming anything.

You are on PriusChat, one of the authoritative 3rd party source for Prius information (If @Danny will allow me to make such a bold claim).

HybridCars.com Jeff Cobb's article says Toyota said the PiP2 is being shown...that's how the whole thing got rolling I thought
