Is there a smaller key available that can start the car? The Prius is my wife's car and I don't want to carry around the giant fob for the occasional times that I need it.

I use valet key rings and have one for each different car. When I am going to drive another car I just change out the key section. upload_2016-3-17_14-25-35.jpeg

I would just leave the key fob at home unless you're actually going to drive the car.

I don't even put my car key on my key ring. I haven't for quite a few years.

It's easy enough to just take the circuit board out of the plastic keyfob case. Then fabricate a smaller protective enclosure. A really simple hack would be to make a sandwich of several obsolete credit cards around the circuit board. Be sure to allow the switches to remain unpressed. Wrap the whole thing in tape. Take a picture of your craftsmanship & post it for us to see...

Beware that most Prius use a 14ACX type keyfob. This 14AAB unit will only work if your (rare) vehicle has a 14AAB keyfob.

Just different. You wouldn't want the supply of used fobs out there intrude on the new sales now would you...

Actually, the new one is probably more integrated. Fewer discrete parts, and cheaper to manufacture.

Maybe someone with a 2016 could pop theirs open and post a picture.

Sounds like a good application for Sugru!
