Where is the 2016 Prius noisemaker located ?

I found a round looking speaker device between the grill and the radiator.
When I unplugged it, and started my car, I got a proximity detection error,... see the dealer error.
    So, wrong speaker.

Looking around in the engine bay, it appears much has changed.

Any ideas on where it is.

When I hear it, to me, it sounds like a engine problem.
Gotta git rid of it ...

the noisemaker is the proximity detector. i think you got the right one. did you try moving the car with it disconnected?
the warning is new though. perhaps it's a law now? idk, but maybe you can complete the circuit to keep the error off the screen.

Probably need to wire in a resistor, similar to bypassing an airbag warning light.

I would think that a proximity detector would detect something-- like a parked car you are about to bump into or a pedestrian. Doesn't the noisemaker always operate when the ICE is off and you are running at low speeds?

yes. but in this case, i could be wrong, but i think toyota calls it proximity something, in relation to pedestrians.

Maybe it's a shared emitter, ultra sound for proxy, low frequency for noise.

That would be too bad, I want the proxy detector.

Used to be in the area in front of the driver's side wheel well. Did you look there?

There is a battery in the upper part, cannot see below it. I'll look more when the temperature gets above freezing.

Probably easiest to look from below, there's usually a removable cover under the corners.

I'm trying to locate this thing to get it unplugged too (the speaker). It's called Vehicle Proximity Notification System by Toyota..
Do you have any update on it's location? I "think" the one you found, unplugged and it gave you a warning may be the actual detecting sensor...we need to unplug the speaker. Thanks

I got side tracked on my 4, added a spare tire, tinted the windows, replaced the horn, now it's gonna rain for 4 days...
I think that I'll have to jack it up, and look from under.

What kind of horn did you replaced with? Was it plug n play. I never like this wimpy horn sound.

On the drivers side I put a Stebel Nautilus Compact Twin Air Horn
    31d0R68jt+L.jpg
and on the passenger side the Stebel 11690058 - Nautilus Compact Truck Mini Air Horn
    81IHe20qpKL._SL1500_.jpg

In the gen 4 there's tons of room in there.

Not plug an play at all, I had to make the brackets. Each horn need about 18 amps, so I tapped in at the battery with a 40 amp in line fuze, used two relays at each of the horns.

The thing you unplugged is the speaker. Looks like Toyota put a check in 2016. Will probably need to wire in a resistor to trick the ecu if you want to unplug it and not having that "see dealer" message. 2015 and older model doesn't have this check.
