I have a 2010 prius and I have to hold the key next to the push to start button. I took it to the dealer and they told me they had to change a smart key module and 2 new keys. I told them to do it. I picked it up and worked great, 2 days later the same thing happened. I haven't called them yet, wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts on this.

Is the SKS system off in the vehicle settings?

12V battery starting to get flakey? The SKS on my 2009 Gen II started showing similar behaviour, well, it started getting flakey (despite replacing batteries in both key-fobs) shortly before the 12V Aux Battery finally croaked!

I have a 2011 Toyota Prius Two, not II because it is not a 2010 and 2010 used uppercase roman numerlas for model designation. I am also a type 1 insulin dependent diabetic on an insulin when I have the insulin pump in my pocket along with it kebab it does the same thing as what you're describing I have to hold the key up to the button and touching if I move the Key little away from the kebab it works

I'd guess you just need a CR1632 battery in the FOB. If it goes dead the owners manual tells us to hold the FOB close to the button.

This was my thought at first, but I think he said the dealer replaced both keys. That is why I was wondering if the SKS system was simply disabled from the vehicle settings somehow.

It's true, the SKS can be disabled.
On my Prius, you can disable SKS from the touchscreen. On others, you can use a Techstream to disable/enable SKS.

I recommended this once to a surfer who wanted to lock his car at the beach, but didn't want to bring his expensive key fob in the water. The solution was to disable SKS and bring the metal key only, leaving the fob inside the car. So he can lock and unlock the doors using a waterproof metal key, then use his fob to start the car.

The bill ended up being over $1000.00. They said I needed 2 new keys with the module.

they should give you a better reason for the original work, and fix the work they did. it might be time for a call to toyota.
have you owned the car since new? any accidents?
