Drove to work this morning in our 03 Prius. Had been using the wife's 2010 but as part of an engineering study. Bob Wilson
it's amazing to me how many are still on the roads around here, considering the salt. and they are always in beautiful condition.
I still get a kick out of the gear selector. When I first saw it I was like WTD, reminded me of an old VOLVO my buddy had in the day. So futuristic then a huge lever to shift into gear, LOL Like the Porsche 911, so nice then the darn Heater levers like a VW bug, Wth?
It's a special day when I see another one in these parts. A couple of months ago I picked up the car after being serviced at Toyota and a service guy looked twice at it and said he hadn't seen an Echo like it before! After clarifying it was a Prius he had a much closer look we ended up having an interesting conversation about it and Toyota's learning curve servicing the vehicle.
LOL, My neighbor just commented that it was a nice Echo. When I told him it was a Prius, he was like WTD? really?
I L.O.V.E. my classic! Way better than the new styles. Better vision all around and so, so solid. 14 years old and not a single rattle.
What I like about my Gen 1 Prii is when someone comments that "Toyota finally made a Prius that looks good!"... they're always surprised when I tell them that the Gen 1 is over 12 years old. They're flabbergasted. Here in this neck of the woods we see a lot of Prii. The distances most of us drive necessitate a Prius if you want to be able to afford gas. When I go to Portland... I'll see at lest two or more Gen 1's. It's always nice to be able to talk to other Gen1 owners and swap stories.
I see one around town every now and then. I still love the way they look and wish I had cash to throw around and get one just because. I saw one just this morning on campus here at one of the buildings that does the eco car challenge. It was covered in sponsorship stickers so I am guessing it was donated to them years ago. I don't think I have seen anyone driving it but it looks like it's been taken care of.
Saw these two at my favorite breakfast hangout. The white one was in really good condition, even on the inside. I didn't want to be seen taking pictures of their car, so I just snapped the one. There were more in the parking lot. It seemed like it was like a Prius car rally.
Love my Gen 1, purchased new in July 2000. It now has over 150,000 miles. I had to replace the main battery last year because I left it sit for three months while traveling to Alaska in my other vehicle, a MB Sprinter B-van RV. I'm sure if I kept driving it daily the battery would have kept going. We have become a Prius family; my son has a Gen 2 and a Prius V; my daughter has a Prius C. I'm waiting to see the new Prius PHEV version before considering a replacement. - - Mike
