Worst Model Year: 2010; Worst Complaint: excessive oil use

It is still necessary to remove drain plug and drain dirty oil and put in all new. If you never remove old oil the dirt is never removed. Changing filter only will only get some of it.

 

That could be true only if the "dirt" that had been in the oil that leaks out (by whatever exit route it takes) is miraculously removed from the oil just before the oil escapes.
Actually, any "dirt" that isn't chunky enough to be caught by the filter will likely escape along with the oil, in the same ratio of "dirt" to oil that's in the oil pan.

 

My 2010 literally started using oil over night. I bought it new, always had it serviced at the dealer and oil started disappearing at about 125,000. I say disappear because it doesn’t smoke, leak or puddle. I have no idea where the oil goes??? I talked to the service manager at my dealer, they prepared to do a consumption test but didn’t because they saw some oil around the valve cover and said it would fail the test due to leaks. I explained it was from the oil adds and if it were leaking that much there would be puddles in my garage. To date I have not received any assistance at all.

 

What would would sudden Oil consumption point to? I'm thinking rings that were ok but gradually accumulating crud, till finally they stick, start allowing oil by?

 

If the biggest problem with the car is that it needs a $428 repair after 95,000 miles... that’s fantastic reliability!

Beyond that... a $428 repair seems like a do-it-yourself level job.
