    I Understand.
One reason I am interested in the interior dimensions, the Prius roof slope - MAY - dictate reduced headroom. In addition, I saw a photo of the Prius rear seat, and it appeared to have very little leg room. Just curious.Hmmm. I guess I book this thread. Sorry.

I'm sorry. I must have killed this thread.

Slope is pretty much the same as on the 3rd gen and I didn't hear much complaints from the 3rd gen owners (or myself).
I've done a 3rd and 4th gen overlay and roof really is only a few cm moved forward - no need to be worried about anything drastic there.

I have no idea who started the phrase "Prius Killer," but obviously that will not occur.
But based on the number of Hyundai's seen throughout the west, Hyundai is taking many sales away from Toyota, Honda, Ford, GM and many others.
It would seem probable that while the Ioniq will not slay the "giant," serious damage will likely be incurred, especially if they offer a hybrid, a "plug-in" and an EV.
It will be interesting to see what their plug-in and EV range will be; the cost; and the warranty.

    You mean the thread? Absolutely.
Every day I look at all the latest threads, and there is just not much going on. The Super Bowl commercial got a little ride, but it's now past. Killing the coal puffers, or whatever that thread was, seems past now.

The truth is, I like to talk about cars. Yesterday there was a serviceman at the house, and he commented on my Avalon hybrid. It launched a good discussion of hybrids as well as all sorts of cars. It's fascinating to me how many still have the impression that the HV battery has a short shelf life, and to replace it cost thousands. I believe that Toyota has won that challenge, but the rumor still persist.

I enjoy your little quips from time to time.

PS - I stand corrected. I see there has been comments on the Super Bowl thread.

Can't answer your question. Hopefully others that have more knowledge will respond.

Personally, I have never been interested in KIA, and the only reason I reopened the discussion about Hyundai, is because I am struck with the realization that they are selling very well here in the west. After my post (several above), I did a little research on the Internet, and January 2016 car sales in the US reveal that Hyundai posted gains, where just about everyone else (including Toyota) were down.

Yep, that Kia and that Hyundai Ioniq have about the same drivetrain. The hyundai's dsg has also been codeveloped with kia.

Hyundai owns about a third of Kia, but that is a somewhat recent development. Before that, I understand they were bitter rivals.

The details are still sparse, but both have a 1.6L direct injection engine mated to a 7 speed dual clutch tranny and motor. The only difference I see being worthwhile to spend the R&D on would be AWD for the Niro.

What is a bit of a mystery is how different the Niro will be from the new Sportage, aside from hybridness. They look very similar from the exterior shots, and are very close in size. Do they feel marketing will be easier with different names?

It seems to be a new platform, as for the Ioniq, dedicated to hybrid applications, including a PHEV:

On show at Chicago Motor Show. And yes, it is the same powertrain of the Ioniq.
Declared for Cx=0,29 which is pretty low for a SUV, same of my Toyota Auris...

So they share the same platform and there is mention of 50mpg combined - didn't they say the same about Ioniq? A bit too similar mpg figure for the suv and hatch....

The Sportage has been redesigned for 2017. Until it is confirmed one way or the other, it can be using the Niro platform designed for a hybrid and converted for a straight ICE.

The Ioniq with small wheels is rated over 52mpg in Korea, which uses the same test cycles as the EPA. So there is a tiny bit of space for the Niro to hit 50mpg. It will be tough, but it really just needs to get over 40mpg to look better than the Rav4h in fuel economy.

Two different companies that share engineering and manufacturing, but have different sales, styling, and marking.

That means ioniq and nero will share platform, engine, and transmission, but differ in sheetmetal, and possibly interior.

Come on Bob, your mind is too quick, your analysis too deep to put any confidence in commercials.
