2007 Prius - Brake, Brake warning (!) ABS and VSC lights ON

    Called the dealer back and they gave me the part # as 44500-47141

    I see Toyota Parts Direct is quoting new one for about $1300

    Link: 44500-47141

    Ordering online and paying for $600 installation at the Dealer = $1900 would be much less than what Dealer is asking now(about $2500)

    Does anyone know if 2006 or 2008 used part fits the 2007 model?

    1. Make sure your dealer's svc dept will install parts you provide yourself. They may refuse to do so.
    2. I suggest that you buy a used part based upon the part number because it is unclear whether an older part number or newer part number will be compatible with your skid control ECU. If you buy based upon part number then it doesn't matter what model year the part is coming out of.

    1. I called the dealer and they said they will install parts provided by customer but there is ZERO warantee.

    2. Yep. the part number am looking for "44500-47141" isn't readily available in the used market place. The closest part available in abundance is "44510-47050" and they do look the same, am a little worried that even though it's similar part functionally, it may not be interchangeable.

    Called several junk yards, looked up eBay etc and all of them have 44510-47050 but very rare to see 44500-47141 part.

    I think it's no-brainer to wait and see if I can get a used part - until then, i'll continue to drive carefully.

    The 2007 prius probably is worth $6K and spending $3K for a part(with only 1 year warrantee) doesn't make sense.

    around here an 07 is worth about 4 grand (look on craigs list) and Im not sure why you want to buy a used one from e bay when I gave you a local Prius repair shop that will supply it and put it in for much less with a warrantee....

    I called Tampa Hybrid and they wanted $850($100 more than you paid) with 6 months warantee. They were going to call me back and let me know if they have the exact part plus a qualified mechanic to do the job.

    As is said, am not able to find "44500-47141" anywhere online(used) and want to make sure Tampa Hybrid puts in the exact same part number. If the price quoted was for the other part number "44510-47050" then it maybe not be worth the trouble.

    Thanks Dion. Mine is a Touring model and I think there might be a difference since the part # is different.

    This one shows part # as 44500-47140 whereas am looking for 44500-47141

    I feel like a fool now.

    Having been unable to find a USED part no(44500-47141) after placing 20-30 calls, I decided to open the hood and look for the ABS part number and I actually see 47050 in the corner of my eye so indeed 44510-47050 is installed on 2007 Toyota Prius!!!

    Am not sure why the Dealer insisted that 47141 is the right part and when I asked to see if 47050 is compatible they said they couldn't find that part number in the database - this is the Dealer who I paid a diagnostics fee.
    Just to be safe, i called another Toyota Dealer and they gave me the same story and the same price to install the part.

    Need confirmation from PC folks - Am I looking at the ABS actuator in the photo (with the BIG letter B) ?

    Update: Finally able to post an image.

    Update: I thought I was able to post a pic but after multiple attempts over several days, I gave up. Someone on the forum needs to check to see if that can be fixed.

    I found a honest local mechanic who was able to source a used ABS Actuator part for $200 and charged me $500 to install so a grand total of $700.
    Tampa Hybrids Inc never called me back - apparently they are busy with their current clientele.

    I don't see any more lit-up dashboard lights and the car seems to drive *normal* but it may take several more days to assure myself.

    If you have extended warranty, please get work done at a dealer but otherwise look for alternate options unless you don't mind paying the money to the dealer.

    For the record:

    My price for used ABS pump install is $800 + tax including a 6 month warranty part and labor.

    I wasn't aware I needed to call you back, however I am glad you were able to get it resolved for a reasonable cost.

    I am a very small shop ( just me, my wife and a part time employee. I have a mechanic on call who is not an employee) so I apologize for not following up with you.

    I think i'm, experiencing the same issues. 2007 Prius with no brake assist at all, pretty hard to stop the car. Constant beep, multiple lights on the dash.

    Are these symptoms for the ABS pump/actuator?

    I am just updating this post as it was cross referenced from another post with similar information.
    No need to feel like a fool, the correct part for the Gen 2 (2006-2009) is in fact the dealer quoted 44500-47141 so that will be why they insist it is the part number. It supersedes 44500-47140. It seems 44510-47050 is not in the database, if that is in fact the part number from the factory.

    Shopping around online dealer parts counters you can find the new part for $1134.

    I'd imagine the new part number will have been updated with the learnings from the recall, so I'd be wanting that part (new or secondhand) if I had to replace it.

    Not everybody realizes that there are often xxxxx-yyyyy numbers stamped or printed on physical parts that are not the part number. They are not an old part number, or a factory part number, or a superseded part number, or any part number.

    They can be an engineering number, or a producer's number on some subcomponent of the part that is never sold separately, but happens to have the number visible on the outside when the part is assembled.

    So there is always confusion when people see those numbers on parts, and think they are looking at part numbers.

    In some cases (Gen 3 brake actuators are an example I've noticed), the entry in Toyota's parts catalog (under the real part number) will also mention a "mark" number, which is the different number that you see on the part when you look.

    I am aware of that and did think of it, but the catalog made no mention of a "mark" number for this part.

    You are right though, it is something to know and be aware of.

    Yeah, the cases where anything in the catalog even mentions the visible mark numbers at all seem to be rare exceptions. Gen 3 actuators might be the only example I know of.

    But the existence of visible numbers on parts that are not the part number is not rare at all. Lots of parts have them, so in most cases you just won't see any mention of that number in the catalog at all.

    I first noticed the numbers-that-aren't-part-numbers phenomenon with an old Ford I had. Ford numbers look more like annb-nnnnn-c and, sure enough, they too could have numbers on a part that would look just like that, but wouldn't be the part number.

    We had a Ford dealer here whose parts counter was open to midnight at the time, and the guy who was best at looking up old parts was the one who worked that shift. So I made lots of late-night runs to the parts counter. I would walk up with a part in my hand, and be like, "so this number right here isn't the one you need?" and he would sigh, and shake his head, and go in back and come out with a box of microfiche, and spend ten minutes figuring out what part it was.

    Hello all,
    I'm see your post and am wondering what the issue ended up being as my dashlight just cam on last night. It looks like it is pointing the brakes but the one item is said to be steering. I drove it around the block and seems ok. I haven't gotten to codes checked yet but will get that done. Any input is helpful.
