The key to the issue is "failing to heed the service interval in the manual". 13K OCI is exceeding the service manual interval no matter how you look at it.

And yes, I did read the link you posted as well as the following link. I have also read the service manual which plainly says what the oil change interval should be.

When Should You Change Your Oil - Edmunds.com

FWIW, try reading the manual for yourself and stop spouting off that 13K OCI or higher is to coin a phrase "No Problemo"

I should have stated in the beginning that I can't believe how well the motor in the Prius are made and how oil have come a long way in quality. I don't post to get into oil change intervals debate. I don't want to come out wrong way "saying this in a nice way" its your car and your money do what you want to do with it. I really could care less. I was just passing on the what I observe and some info once we got into the oil debate.

It is obvious that you just don't care, otherwise you would heed your service manual. 10K OCI is the max. Ignore it if you like, it's your car and your engine you are risking.

I had a hard time reading the oil level for around 40k miles if I recall. If it was just completely clear and I couldn't tell on the dipstick. Only at 10k miles, when it was about time to change it do I notice a little amber in color.

Yes. You can't even press it away as it will return to maintenance required after a few seconds.

You are right, I care but I don't care. I care about my car but I don't care about the oil change maintenance intervals. My Girlfriend and I drive a lot. We put on 35K in 8 months of owning the car. All of my cars have been 10k to 15k oil change intervals. I had a 2000 suburban with 210k and still runs like a champ before I sold it. I would towing my boat to the river once or twice a year. Toyota Camry with 380k and my sister still drive it and it still drives like the day I gave it to her and your right I don't care about my cars and it show. Just kidding. I understand and I do respect your opinion. We just have different ways of looking things but it's all good.

All I use is Mobil 1 synthetic oil.

Assume the Mobil 1 Extended Performance version with the M1C-154 Extended Performance Oil Filter.
This combo may last 13K, but, I'll stick with a 7500 mile interval using the above. Oil and filters are cheap compared to a new engine.

You need to go back old school and change it at 3000 miles to be on the safe side...:D

Yeah, why milk it? It's cheap insurance to change at 3000. Oil is cheap. Engines are not. :ROFLMAO:

Don't forget we all need to take the Prius in every 10k to get the valve adjusted. And don't forget the carburetor needs to be adjusted at 15k. You don't want your air and gas mixture to be off....:p:D

Checking a dipstick and concluding that that a "clean" appearance is satisfactory...is simply foolish.

That is why I was hoping he would send it to blackstone for an oil analysis.

I'll sell you a circa 80's Chevy with "clean" oil in the sump, for top "collectible" dollar...

A few years back I worked with a former Toyota mechanic. He insisted oil changes had to be done every 3000 miles, even with synthetic oil. He was a bit touchy about it, but, he witnessed the Toyota engine sludge issue and nothing would change his mind.

Hmm... you are an expert? You work on cars?

I have worked on thousand of cars when I used to work in an automotive shop. Back in the days but have move on to a better career. We used to have representative from Fram, Wix oil filter, Mobile , Valvoline representative come in and explain their products to my boss how their products is the best and we should use them. Back then they was tell us 10k+. on synthetic oil change. Im not saying that an expert. I'm one of those people embrace technology and not stuck in the past.

Sorry, not buying it. Maybe you were a part-time lube tech. You've got no ASE minimal credentials that I see from your posts.

I have a pair of boots older than you....:)
