RAV4 hybrid coming?

Interesting. From the US site:

However, Cinnamon is not offered at all for the US Electric Storm Blue Hybrid Limited in some regions. There they just have Black, Ash, or Nutmeg. In Ontario, Canada, there is no Ash or Nutmeg for any of the exterior colours, just Black or Cinnamon, with Cinnamon being offered for the Electric Storm Blue as well. In other words, you can order Electric Storm Blue with Cinnamon in Canada, but you can't in the US. Odd.

And on the Canadian site, they don't have any pictures of the interior when you choose those colours, which makes it even more difficult to navigate through all of this. Why is this so complicated?

 

I'm shocked. Order is in! We go pick it up next week.

That means it only took 3 weeks for our custom order. I'll have to ask how they got it so quick.

We just made it under the wire too, since a steel plant explosion in Japan may delay Toyota builds for the next month or so.

Confirmed. Made in Japan. Received just 3 weeks after custom order. Cinnamon looks quite nice in person.

 

Sorry for the lousy pictures, but I was losing the light, and my older iPhone doesn't do so well in the dark. The colour of the Cinnamon is really like a dark tan but they kind of look more brown in these improperly colour balanced pictures.

Cargo space, with and without OEM cargo tray. Note that this one is specific to the RAV4 Hybrid. The regular one won't fit. Because I live in Canada, I had to order it from the US. The cargo tray is not available in Canada.



For the hybrid, the cargo tray is shorter, because it ends at that elevated rectangular box near the back of the seats. The elevated box is not present in the regular RAV4. In the hybrid, there is a small storage compartment there, but the main reason it exists is because the batteries are underneath.

We've only put one tank through ours so far and got about 575 km with a 45 litre fill up.

So that's 7.83 L/100 km or about 30 mpg US. That's about 75% city driving. Note that I am in Canada and because we have very young kids, on the colder days we'd run the car for a few minutes to warm it up before putting the kids in.

BTW, there was a lot of slush this morning and one guy on the steep hill by my house in a pickup was fishtailing all over the place trying to get up the hill. I in our RAV4 Hybrid and another driver in a Highlander AWD had no trouble at all, even when starting from a complete stop on a fairly steep incline.

 

Couldn't see into it but nothing sticking out of the top. Plus I'm not sure if he had winter tires. But regardless, that particular hill is often a problem for 2WD cars. It's a problem with my Prius Plug-in, with winter tires. I can usually make it up the hill, but with a lot of wheel slippage, and I'd better not stop or else I'd be in trouble.

With the RAV4 Hybrid AWD, it was no trouble at all, even after a stop. And I just heard the same story from a Sienna AWD owner. His neighbour was completely stuck in a FWD Odyssey, whereas the Sienna owner had no problems at all.

I want AWD on my next Prius.
