What's better than getting 50mpg while exploring to your heart's content?

Without a doubt! Not including smallish trips, our Prius has taken our family of four (two kids 12 & 15) on major trips from Cincinnati, OH to Disney (Orlando, Fl), Colonial Willamsburg (Virgina),around Lake Erie to Niagra Falls, and The Great Smokey Mountains . I joke that we spend more for a days worth of meals or hotel than we do on gas the whole trip!

Road to Tahoe? How was riding? No chains?

Yep, this was some side road in the Tahoe area. Chains weren't required on 80 yet, and the Michelin Premiers luckily never got stuck. Though having never lived in a snowy place before, it's quite intriguing to climb a hill with a blistering 0-10mph time of 10 seconds ;)

It's great, first I thought it's not a good car for snow, but I see now there are many happily drive it.

I've had worse cars than the Prius in snow. I actually prefer it more than driving my girlfriends Corolla in the snow. I've always wondered how much all the extras in the front end adds compared to something like the Corolla.

Snow/Ice is a boogieman. Last winter, I was good until it got really bad. This year, I didn't fare so well, but I can tell from looking at the tires at the last rotation that the tread is getting low. I'll likely need new tires before next winter, and that's the biggest reason why I'm not handling snow and ice as well this year. It's that way with every vehicle I've owned.
