Prius battery module bad or no?

    Wanted to thank everyone for such an awesome resource, after my mechanic told me that my main battery was bad this form has the information I needed To confidently save some much needed money, so kudos to you guys. Below is a list of my loaded and unloaded battery voltage readout. Please tell me how the voltages look to you am I right that my mechanic was incorrect in his assessment that the HV battery was wrong, i believe it may just be the 12 battery? Thanks for your help the first number is the reg voltage the second is under load of a 7v 5.5watt light bulb.

    welcome! why not test the 12 volt, wouldn't that be easier?

    Thats coming tomorrow, that is logical however i was told by my mechanic that it was definintly the hv battery, i trusted his opinion, a mistake i wont make again... I posted these numbers to make sure i was right about the battery looking ok.

    Thanks steve , im testing 12v battery today and will also hookup my obdii scanner once the car is back together later today, i tried finding a 7v bulb with a higher load but couldnt get one at the local auto store, what do most people use to do a load test?

    When a 12v battery is bad, it can also produce codes that show the HV battery is bad.
    Your mechanic may be basing his diagnosis purely on the codes presented to him.
    Although, additional experience with hybrids would have him take the next step to load test the 12v.

    Unfortunately, there are times when the 12v is bad AND the HV battery is bad.
    So even after the 12v is replaced, it may additionally lead you to HV replacement.

    Concerning your tracktion battery, the calculated cell impedances are all 30 mohm or less, which to my eye looks good. You could have measured these values using Torque and a cheap scan tool. You could also report what codes your car has thrown which help the experts help you.

    A good indicator of battery health is delta V. Here's a Torque screen I use to check my battery. You can see in the upper graph I'm on it while the lower graph shows an acceptable delta V. What gauges do you have on Torque? | PriusChat.

    Ok sorry for the lack of activity work got crazy, so the 12 battery was dead, i put my hv battery back in hooked it up. Put the new 12v battery in. Hooked up my obd scanner (elm327 bluetooth) downloaded torque to my daughters kindle and all went well except it registered no error codes, none the less i reset the codes, fired her up and she wouldnt start (the red triangle of agrivation appeared and the screen said problem) What is my best next move?

    Now that you've got Torque you need to install usbseawolf2000's custom PIDs. See here Gen2 Prius: Custom PIDs for Torque (Android App) with formulas | PriusChat

    You should also set your communication protocol to ISO 15765-4 CAN 11bit 500k baud. Auto scanning can cause CAN bus issues, see I scanned my Prius to death /!\ | PriusChat

    Make sure Torque is connected to the car and read the HV battery block voltages and internal resistance of each block as the car sees it. You could add guages for everything, but a quick trick is to just look at the values on the add display menu which updates in real time.

    Yup, you've got to have pro if your adding custom PIDs.

    Kindle torque doesnt want to import the pids, it doesnt seem to maintain the same file structure as torque for android, i did change the communications protocol. The app says it can connect with the scan tool but cannont connect with the vehicle. Im thinking i need to borrow an android device

    Torque with custom PIDs can read the battery stuff, but the very best tool for any Toyota is a mini VCI cable. You need an old laptop to dedicate. There are threads here to help if you go that route.

    Eurica, borrowed a friends code scanner and it fired up, cleared all codes and code P0A0D persists

    Ok i celebrated to early, was driving it around this afternoon and the triangle came on. Code P0AA6 anyone messed with this? Seems to be an hv battery fault but thats extreemly vague

    Ok so i found this very helpful video,
    . and the car codes within the first 60 seconds without the engine on, a couple other points of interest, when i disconnect the negativ 12v battery i get an unusual amount of sparks. Is my best bet to order a mini vci wait? Or is it safe to say its the hv battery?

    Killtheoldman, there are different causes for P0AA6 HV isolation failure. I watched the luscious garage video, but a dealer can scan the car and show additional information codes that can help isolate the issue. Also, have you had any water intrusion inside the car?

    yes, same leak as this guy, i just fixed it today, two small cracks sealed, wiped as much water as i saw. Tell me i can dry this up and make it go away!
