Ummm.... 88mpg!!?? How can that be? We talking 88 Volkswagen type of mpg, downhill, or electric mode? Even 70 would have seemed unreal. If that is even ballpark accurate.... I'm going to start planning a long road trip.

So what I think might work for some purposes is 2-inch x 4x8-ft Corning Formular XPS foam insulation (Home Depot), which is extremely popular for making stage props and things like that because it is easy to work with. I recently used the Lowes brand version XPS for a train table. also comes in 1/2-inch sheets, not sure if they have 2.5 inch.

    Re: 88 MPG
Seems to me the new Gen4 is going to beat EPA ratings from what we've heard so far.

88 mpg on a oneway trip means nothing. Roundtrip would be meaningful.
On the map, Carson to Whittier is 24 miles and shows a 300 ft elevation climb. If those locations were only approximate, it is possible that the trip actually ended at a lower elevation, but not by much.
I could see a PiP doing 88 mpg but not a Prius.
    Google Maps

Can you please give us more exact starting and stopping points so that elevation can be accounted for?
In either case, it definitely was not aided by a huge downward slope, and probably was uphill.

Would like to see more data, but definitely promising.

Some more pictures...would have been nice if I had been able to shoot from afar, but it was raining (no surprise there) more heavily than usual in OR and the confined space made it difficult to shoot. Driving wise definitely a significant improvement from the 2004 version, with a much quieter cabin and noticeably better handling on the curves. The blind spot monitoring functioned as expected and the PCS worked just fine in the gingerly test to try and run into my garage wall (except for the hard braking part :).

BTW, the white console isn't as bright as it looks in the picture (it's overexposed by the flash) and in our lovely OR weather, the light diffusion from the clouds makes it look almost ivory like. The hypersonic red looks very interesting IMO, though I don't know whether a casual viewer will finding it appreciably different from vaguely Burgundy-ish. It's supposed to also emit a sheen when in sunlight, but I suspect we'll have to wait a few months for that here ;).

Anyway, if someone has some burning questions, let me know and I will try and get to them.

PCP isn't available on the 3, so that is a 4.

Do those All Weather Mats have a big warning imprinted on the left side?

Congratulations to your new Prius !

    Many burning questions !

How good are the new led headlights ?
How does the quietness in the cabin compare to that in the gen. 2 Prius ?
How does acceleration feel in normal mode ?
Toyota claimed it would be comparable to gen. 3 power mode .
Are all buttons illuminated this time ?

Well he Did say he had stop&go traffic,so 88 mpg seems remarkable under those conditions even if it was just a oneway trip !!
Toyota didn't create this hype for nothing .
I believe the EPA numbers are very misleading this time !

Congrats. That is an awesome car.Prius 2016 is not yet there in TN might be another 3 weeks per the dealer.
Have you driven the previous 3rd Gen and do you find any striking differences between 2016, especially in the ride quality/noise/handling etc?

There is a flat plastic "tab" on the passenger side of the vehicle. Has a small embossed "pull" on one end. Do not know what is does or covers.

The headlights are brighter than the Gen 2 - and the auto brights are a nice feature
    acceleration? Working on hypermiling.
All buttons are illuminated on the dash

you mean , "Early implementer of the 2016 Prius." not "Early implementor of the 2106 Prius.
If that case you are the first person to go back in future and try a 20th or 21st generation Prius 100 years from now lol.!

Interesting the way the hood contour curves up to a high point, we could see that under the black tape I thought maybe they'd have an air intake there.

What I was asking was is there writing on the mat in the section that I circled. It appears to be writing on mats on the accessories page.

Newbie here. Picked up a 4 + ATP yesterday (sea glass green). Here are answers to a few of the above Qs.

    - Used costco purchase: invoice - 300 straight up (SF bay area- Fremont Toyota; printout attached). While I entered my costco ID online, dealer never asked to see my card. But dealer added dreaded dealer ad fee. They had at least one of each: 2, 3/3T, 4/4T, but mostly had 4/4T. As previously noted for nor cal, only had 4 with ATP.

    - Much improved ride, seats, sound over my 2004 prius.
    - Phone worked well (can't compare that to the 2004).
    - Got 54 mpg for first 60 miles.
    - When backing up sensors picked up and warned of a bicyclist coning from side / back of car (well done).
    - Wife seems happy (her car!)

    • Headlights look nice and bright. IIRC, I had some upgraded headlights on my 2004 as well, but the LED ones feel "cleaner"
    • Cabin noise is way better compared to Gen2 (confirmed by two other passengers)
    • The "normal" acceleration improvement is definitely very noticeable in terms of responsiveness / quietness (vis-a-vis Gen2; can't comment on Gen3). Also, assuming foot pressure on the accelerator memory, the car was going 5-8 miles faster than expected between 30-45 mph than expected and I had to account for it
    • One really nice feature is the HUD projects speed limit signs. It doesn't appear to do it all the time, so it probably depends on whether the camera spotted it
    • BTW, my wife (a BMW driver) was so impressed that she's now eyeing it (assuming the power mode satisfies her acceleration requirements). Needless to say, Gen2 didn't cut the mustard, so let's see :)
