Local dealership is selling the gen 4 Prius Four Touring for $32.5k. Should I buy it at that price?

Should you buy a car at MSRP? True car is already offering the 2016 4 touring w/ convenience for $1600 off MSRP so that is what I would use as a starting point, of course you may have to shop around other dealers.

 

I would wait!

Costco Auto Buying Program is selling at Invoice + usually 4-500 additional off.

 

we going to wait till end of year unless they come off on price a lot. Gas low, competition in great now. I think we could possible see some price incentives a little later by toyota.

 

Why buy when supply is low and demand high. That allows the dealer to set the price. Wait till you can dictate the terms.

Or if you just have to have it...

I say this as one who bought three first month of issue cars and got burned each time. One the parts supply for repairs didn't catch up with sales for 3 years. One rusted out. The third the transmission fell out of the car. A really weird feeling to look out the rear view mirror and see nuts and bolts bouncing along behind your car and knowing they just came from your car. None were Toyotas.

 

The dealership doesn't pay invoice. I bought my Subaru the same way... The car hadn't even been released yet, and I pre-ordered at Invoice.The Dealers have agreed to sell the cars at that price. There are no "Supply & Demand" Pricing issues.

 

maybe in the olden days, with incentive, holdbacks, manufacture to dealer rebates and a host of other hidden discounts the dealer obtains cars for far bellow invoice.

Again, invoice pricing is from Edmunds.com "Build and Price". The table does not include the $835 Delivery, Processing, and Handling (DPH) fee or Options and Accessories (other than the Advance Technology Package - ATP). In addition, the Toyota Dealer Advertising (TDA) fee (which varies by the region of the country you are in) is also considered part of the invoice cost by most dealers. The TDA is not part of this table. So at my dealership the regional advertising fee (which the dealer considers part of the car's invoice cost) was over $400. (bumping the "true" dealer invoice cost even higher)

By my calculations the invoice for the 4 Touring with PCP, plus the $835 DPH is $30,299 (per Edmunds, the invoice on the PCP is $1537; so $27,927 + $1537 + $835+TDA). My calculated MSRP, plus DPH is $32,540 [$30,000 + $1705 (PCP) + $835], which is consistent with your calculation).

According to THIS thread the PCP option may be hard to come by in the SF Bay area, perhaps requiring a special order (meaning less opportunity to negotiate the price down towards invoice). I have a NJ dealer quote that is close to invoice for a Prius 3 w/ATP.

 

Seems like the dealer is getting the better end of that deal

Chosen One, read through Car Buying Guide for New and Used Vehicles | CarBuyingTips.com then read through it again after getting quotes from local dealers. Salesmen can smell desperation so they'll hold firm on the price. Unless you need the car immediately wait for the inventory to arrive. Offer invoice or a bit less to see if anyone bites.

28,262 for a 4T including Destination. $500 below Dealer Invoice. I was "First" in 2010 and paid full MSRP, but not happening this time.

I need to see if the upgraded JBL is worth it... 4 extra speakers in the same locations as the other 6... I don't really care about Park Assist or HUD
