That's certainly one important difference but there are others that I think are equally or more important to some buyers.

Some people would not consider a Prius because they are primarily interested in powering most of their travel electrically.

Even though home charging would be easy for me to set up, I would not consider a Volt for the following reasons
    • Rear seat legroom is a serious problem when tall people are in the front seats
    • It lacks the ability to carry 5 adults
    • It lacks the ability of a good hatchback design to carry larger and more varied loads
    • IIRC it is not available with a spare tire
    • I would have lower expectations for reliability, maintenance costs, adaptability to changing needs and retained value in the long term
    • I would expect it to have more minor annoyances

Every now and then, I come across something so bad . . . source: 2016 Toyota Prius Could Be Better With Manual – NSEAVoice

The all-new Toyota Prius might be the best car when it comes to fuel economy but it is also the worst in terms of design. Styling aside, we still believe that the Prius is competing with the handbrake up because it still have the potential to return even greater fuel economy.

This can be achieved through replacing the CVT gearbox with a standard manual. Toyota kept on claiming that the CVT transmission is one of the major reasons to how they were able to save more fuel but this comes with a lesser-end performance.
    . . .

Uh, there are times when you read something so disconnected from reality . . . well I'm OK if this is banned to some obscure bit-bucket. The rest of the 'article' (Google found) is well . . . like talking with someone who is lost in Neverland.

It is also a matter of cost (of fuel) versus effort...electricity price here is 1/4 of gasoline (per km of Prius driving, was even 1/5 a while ago).
I moved to an apartment 2 years ago and was lucky having a privet parking spot just below the apartment so was able to add a dedicated line from my distribution box to the car and keep charging.
With similar difference in prices I am sure some (many?) US apartment dwellers would find the way to make it too...

I also liked the bit about the high pressure fluid he thinks is in the transmission.

It's not often you see so much ignorance coupled with such a strong opinion in such a short article.

Astounding ignorance, to be honest. Starting with the article NOT showing the picture of the new 2016 model, and moving on to the ridiculous rant about how CVTs work. He didn't even say e-CVT....and seems to have missed out on the fact the it's actually a "Planetary Gear Set" which is so decidedly alien, one suspects a Vulcan living among the Japanese sold them the idea! Humour aside, the article is appalling, to say the least. Can he say "Hybrid Synergy Drive"? :(

The video was very interesting and informative. Impressive.

My only regret .....is the exterior. Hopefully, when I see the vehicle in person I will have a kinder reaction. The technology is truly remarkable, and if I was in the market, which I am not, I would really have to do some soul-searching .... technology vs aesthetics. I am not one that does not care about what my ride looks like.

"Our hybrid is a better fit for American driving situations," Yang Woong-chul, Hyundai's global R&D chief told Automotive News. "When it is announced, the whole world will be surprised."

And you can buy the Ioniq press releases today!

So which Hyundai dealer do you' all work at? Posting in this thread, you're almost as welcome as the Volt/cheat-diesel/EV advocates.

Well there is a good reason to have an 'Ignore User' option.
