    The accuracy is a function of tire 'revs/mile'. On our 2010 Prius, the error with replacement tires is less than 1%. On our 2003 Prius, the error is deliberately 6% because I am testing over-sized tires as an over-drive solution.

    1. He didn't actually drive the car and just wrote a review based on some information on paper and made assumptions on other things
    2. He drove it and somehow thought "B" was shifting gears.

    yeah, those were the good old days. one day i was driving a 60 mpg car, and the next, 50. funny, my mpg's didn't go down.(n)

    I have to say that the design of the 2016 Prius is finally beginning to grow on me. Visually, it's lower, sportier looking, sleeker, and looks like a road going teardrop on wheels. Almost. I drive a Prius II "Iconic" that looks like a ST:TNG Shuttlecraft on wheels. Analogically, I'd best describe the 2016 Prius as looking like that sleek Shuttlecraft from "Interstellar" :)

    Matches what we've seen already:

    At 9.7 seconds to 60 mph and 17.4 seconds through the quarter mile at 77.6 mph, the gen-fours are about as quick as the gen-threes.

    Simple answer, hubris:
    Upon deciding they were the 'experts', they became deaf to feedback that could have averted the financial disaster that has become Consumer Reports. They have already changed most of the senior management but my experience has been the worst offenders, the ones most responsible, are the last to leave. But I will pickup their issue that reviews the 2016 . . . at least to scan it on the news stand. If they still publish nonsense numbers, I will quietly put it back.

    spoke to a dealer, Canada's production is starting January and will be in the dealers by late February early March in the West coast.

    zor - I'm not sure I understand your post. "Canada's production" ... you mean the assembly of new Prius for sale in Canada?

    Are you implying that Canadian cars are assembled separately from other destinations? If so, is there something unique about Canadian laws (environmental) that would require them to be assembled separately?

    It is not my intent to be challenging; earlier I had asked when assembly began, and you seem to have answered the question, unless there is something unique about Prius designated for Canada.

    Hi Felt,

    That is a good question, and no worries please feel free to ask anything.

    When i spoke to the sales person, he told me that the production is starting in January for the Canadian market. The way i understood that is: every production schedule is scheduled for a certain market and perhaps also certain colours and law requirements like signal light colours etc of packages are made for certain countries specifically. So the cars being made for Canada are being produced in January. This might also mean that mass productions for the whole world are being produced for export at this time, that might be the case as well, but that aside Canada's market it being produced in January and should arrive some time late February early March enjoy the anticipation :) i sure am....waiting for one my self.     I almost didn't cite this piece because it reads like a survey paper. But one quote gave some insights.

    Source: Chevrolet, Toyota raise game in green battle

    The redesigned and re-engineered Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid and Toyota Prius hybrid enter the 2016 model year as two of the nation's most fuel-efficient cars, according to the latest EPA fuel economy guide.

    Both cars are engineering marvels with advanced, superefficient gasoline-electric powertrains.

    But they are being launched at a time when gasoline is less than two bucks a gallon in many states, fueling a rush to pickups, crossovers and SUVs.

    Sales of the most fuel-efficient vehicles are lagging. Through November, U.S. deliveries of the Prius slipped 12 percent while Volt volume dropped 23 percent.

    The Volt-1 shared many problems with first generation products. Meanwhile, the 2015 Prius was also facing the 'new model' doldrums. What triggered posting was this quote:

    Despite their teetotaling ways, the Volt and Prius appeal to very separate types of buyers, says AutoPacific analyst Dave Sullivan.

    "They are very different cars, very different goals in mind. Volt's goal is to shift your energy [supply] to the grid, while the Prius wants to keep you from filling up as often as possible," Sullivan says. "Volt begs you to change your habits by plugging in. Prius just gets good fuel economy, regardless of how you drive it. No change in habits required."

    This really lays out the difference. In effect, the Volt-2 and other plug-ins are 'flex fuel' using the nearest electrical source. Given the problem of throttling a power plant, after peak electricity should be fairly affordable. In contrast, the Prius can be owned by folks living in an appartment.

    In general Canadian cars are different from US cars because the regulatory requirements are somewhat different (e.g. display in km not miles and mandatory daytime running lights) and because Toyota Canada configures cars to meet their perception of the Canadian market just as Toyota USA configures theirs for the US market)
