Can the 4th Gen still be used as a camper or sleeper? Flat or Non Flat Cargo floor ?

Hi All,

Ive made this thread so we can all share our opinions on the 4th Gen as a sleeper/camper road trip car.

So from the picture i have seen so far it seems that the new 4th Gen Prius has done away with the Flat Cargo Floor, which to me is quite a draw back since i wanted to get the Prius so i can use it as a Camper/sleep road trip car like many others you can find on google, but waited a year to get the 4th Gen.

To my dismay i see in some of the pictures/videos that now they have done away the flat cargo floor with the 60/40 split seats...

Some one on the thread has said that there is 2 versions to this Model and one of them is showing a flat cargo space....is this false hope or an actually possibility? if any of you have pics to fallow your information please do share.

I have been thinking of ideas to raise the floor height, i came across some one suggesting styrofoam but i dont think im a big fan of styrofoam mainly because its so environmentally taxing and it dents from the Styrofoam that i know of,probably doesn't last a long time... do you have any suggestions?

Thanks for your interest in this topic.
I will explore that idea and see if it works, from just the top of my head, latex foam sinks when you lay on it which might cause quite a difference between the floor heights, i was thinking something sturdy so that its flush and then add something on top of that for cushioning if need be.

Any and all suggestions/ideas are very welcomed.

Yes considering how many people use the previous prius to camp and do cross country tours in it, praising it etc, it is surprising.
I hope it gets more exposure so that we can get some great ideas and contribute to a better experience with the new prius for everyone.

 

They tend to take shape of the floor, unless its a really sturdy air matters, but even then, it will be on a slope because of the drop from the back seats, i imagine.

 

I havent owned a prius yet, if you are asking if i sleep in one already. Ive been waiting for the 2016 to come out so i can use it as a camper, i was gonna go for the 3rd gen but with the new one coming out so soon i thought id wait

 

Yes you can actually with the 3rd gen people over 6 foot tall can sleep in it, comfortably, there are lots of blogs about it, some guy was pretty tall and he just put the front seats all the way forward and in between the space of the front seats and back seats he put some material, which looked very easy and all sorts of material can be used, like a bucket, or luggage etc....there was a guy that even managed to sleep in a prius c that was over 6 foot tall

I really enjoy the idea that one can sleep in his car with out having to worry about inclement weather,wild life etc it opens up the horizon as to where in the world one can go and camp and feel safer.

Also i read online somewhere that the prius keeps the temperature in the car at what ever temp you set it to while you sleep, and then when the battery runs out of juice from keeping you warm/cool it turns on by its self while you sleep recharges the battery and turns off.
Not sure how that works yet as i have not tried it my self its a nice little added feature, not necessary but quite nice if it can be done.

The places ive seen people sleeping in the prius is quite alluring(sleeps 2 people).
