^^^ yup gas prices just jumped up 8 cents after I topped off my tank.

Gas stations are fast to raise prices but slow to drop prices.

Yeah, it's slowly starting to go back up again in my area, but I'm going to chalk that up to they want to rip people off right before they start traveling for the Christmas holiday. Because why not?

Not like you have any viable alternatives, so ignore those plug-ins and go buy more trucks and SUV's!

California gas: $2.89 and we consider that pretty cheap.

Spoke too soon. It's back up to $1.249/litre or US$3.38/gal using today's exchange rates.

According to Gasbuddy graphs, California gas prices appear to be spiking the past two days, but not so for the rest of the West Coast, nor the nation as a whole.

Knew a guy who owned/ran a gas station for a while. The reason for this is that the station is expected to pay the cost of the gas when the shipment is dropped off IN FULL. So, if prices go up, he raises right away rather than charge based on what he paid because the next shipment will be at whatever price it is when it arrives. If prices go down, he can't just drop prices because he doesn't know if it will stay down when the next gas shipment arrives. He always had to hedge a "buffer" to cover the cost of the gas delivery.

This gives plug-ins an even better incentive/benefit over gas only cars. Electricity rates are fixed, and can't be raised and lowered as easily as gas prices, which can fluctuate several times a week, or in some rare cases, hourly, based on supply and demand.

True, charging infrastructure for people who don't own a garage is still extremely limited, but more can be added as demand for them goes up, and longer ranged ones will reduce the need to plug in every single day if your average commute is short enough.

OPEC better make gas $1 a gallon or less for years if they don't want plug-ins becoming a serious threat to their livelihood. I know I won't go back to a gas only car ever again, after years of them pillaging my wallet.

they'll do whatever it takes, they have no choice. but judging by 97% of the american public, their work isn't cut out for them.

I am so with you Ashlem! During our last "peak" of gas prices, I was averaging $200 a week! I never want to spend that much on gas again. I don't care how "sexy" the new corvette, cuda, charger, mustang or Suburu looks. $800 dollars a month of my income is ridiculous!! And don't get me started on where the $800 dollars was going. Wait till next year, now that many have been seduced with low prices, those people who over the last 3 years have bought their big trucks, SUV's and gas burners are really in for a surprise. If I am going to spend $800 dollars a month on a car, ...................can anyone say Tesla?

Most of our stations are in the $1.70 - $1.80 range. I've been tempted to spend the money on the car I've wanted for years (Shelby GT Mustang), but it isn't the gas that worries me - I probably wouldn't drive it much. It's the insurance and taxes that stop me. We will keep driving our three hybrids (avg. 46-47 between the three) and enjoy cheaper gas as well as moderate insurance and tax costs. The F-150 turns 10 next year and is hopefully going to give us another ten years. Can't see plopping down $50K+ for a replacement that gets 17 at best when I already have one of those.

California gas continues to go up!

We are almost at $3.00 per gallon!

Glad I don't have my previous German car, it took premium fuel and I got 18 mpg! LOL

At least, $3.00 is not hurting me too much with a prius!

Happy Holidays everyone, including you Exxon Mobil!

Yep, been there done that! Used to have a Mercedes Benz S-500. Using premium fuel when gas prices were in the $4.00 range would spend over $100.00 for a tank of fuel at least once a week or more. 27 gallon tank would maybe get you 475 miles.

Filled up yesterday at $15.50 at $1.73 @ 8.91 gallons. Will be able to drive 450 miles for a week. Gotta love the Prius! Also the most reliable vehicle I have ever driven.
