I like the commercial. It's called "Beyond Possible". At 0:32 they show the eye of the driver to prepare the viewers that we are entering a dream sequence. At 0:36 the driver steps on the brake and the car propels forward. This and everything after that is only happening in his head. The drifting and the plant are clearly things that are beyond possible.

I like it because it is possible to make several interpretations and to discuss about them.

Had to rewatch it because of your comments. Didn't even notice the fact that he was hitting the brakes prior to launch which adds a whole new level of comedy to this commercial. Not a fan of the new squeeling tires, e-brake drifts, and unrealistic approach Toyotas marketing team is taking. Up until now the Prius has always been considered to be a practical economy car. I don't think its possible to convert the Prius image to one of hip young adrenaline fueled driving. Being fairly young myself and dead center in their target age range I feel like Toyota has lost touch with the intent of owning a Prius or who their new demographic is. Individuals who buy a Prius are their own counter culture to the excess of driving V8 powered sports cars and SUVs in traffic and I have no interest in power sliding city streets or drifting in underground parking structures. The Prius has always been the butt of the joke, but thats part of what I like about driving one. Its almost satirical pulling into the parking lot at 50+ mpg and being surrounded by coworkers that commute from far greater distances in lifted F-250s at 10 mpg.

it's hard for us early adopters. we have been searching for ways to make other people like us, toyota has tried to turn the tables. i hope they succeed. meantime, i don't see any downside to the gen IV, as far as meeting current owners desires is concerned.

On a more measurable note, what are your thoughts on whether all that suspension rework will lead to a noticeably higher successful speed on Teknikens Värld's elk test?

The Prius result they have showing now is a 2010, dry pavement, 69 km/h. (I guess in some part of the world there's such a thing as a "Prius+" Executive, and a 2013 clocked 72 km/h.)

Now I'm kind of curious to look up my Gen 1. They might have tested it (they've been doing the same tests for 40 years) but they don't seem to have older models on that web page.

Anyway, curious how measurable the 2016 improvements will be....

Someone will measure the turning G-force max. There in lies the data.

There's a lot of ways you can convey and highlight the increased agility of the new Prius in video... but nice person-dragging (parking brake oversteer) and awkwardly-executed loose-surface inertial chucking?

If this is an indication of what Toyota believes is going to sell the new Prius... should we expect to see them pay the big bucks to place it in the next installment of the Fast and Furious franchise?

I liked it - the rap - until it got to the part, what kind of car do you want petrol or diesel. A glaring reminder of how Toyota has begun to shun its own plugin. Even as Toyota begins to build the 2nd generation pip, it gets obviously unnoticed. It'll be a miracle if Toyota is willing to sell it in all 50 states. Still, fingers crossed.

If they do restrict distribution, at least it shouldn't be like a lot of other compliance cars that are only sold to residence of, and registered in, one of a very few states.

they've been running a fairly new ad a lot around here. red prius, touting the safety features, mpg's etc. then they take it through a slalom through bunch of trees. may be their best ad yet. simple to the point, and hopefully, effective. car looks good in red.

it may be that Toyota no longer wants the main Prius to be the taxi. Many of the taxis around LAX have gone to the Prius v. More cargo room - & still decent room for customers heads getting into the rear seats. So the v is still a taxi option .... more expensive (profit?) than the standard prius, & maybe that's part of Toyota's thinking as to taxi ownership. Then there's also the Rav 4 hybrid for taxis ... less expensive than the Highlander Hybrid - which also gets regularly used in SoCal.
