Featured Hyundai IONIQ - Prius competitor?

I doubt that joy stick on the prius costs much. I don't think anyone will buy a gen IV prius or an ioniq because of the dash layout, or run screeming away because of it. I like the audi dashes more than any other, but never have bought an audi There are other things to cars. A friend had an a4 he really liked.

I think the prius shifter will only sell prius people ;-) I don't think they will buy a hybrid ioniq anyway. They might like the phev or bev, but I hardly think the shifter will be important then.

Nothing wrong with a stalk shifter. This is not going to have a manual option, so no need for a floor shifter look. Steering wheel shift buttons work great.

I don't think people are shifting very often in a hybrid.

 

i would prefer the shifter on the steering wheel, but it is what it is. it's all personal preference, and i agree the whole setup won't sell or dissuade most buyers. i just like have space for all my 'stuff'.

 

Yes, but paddle shifters are another part to pay for. One which those actually considering the car likely don't care for.

 

I think Volt gen II does their re-gen off a steering wheel paddle iirc.

Yes, it does; the ELR had it. It is also an option on the fortwo ED.
But hybrids don't have the battery to really provide the range of regen that you can get on a plug in. Though, just being able to turn it off for a gliding would be nice.

 

our hycam has a regular looking shifter, i think it's going to take more than that to swing voters.

Could be, I am not familar with that movie.
BMW i3 has some questionable design choices, and their transmission stalk is huge and different than traditional, but it seems better to me than this hyundai or the prius design.

I would have gone with a more traditional stalk, but this adds the start button, and unlike the prius includes P without a separate button. The "B" or "L" are missing here from the prius or traditional respectively. Still I like the braking on the i3 much better than the prius.

 

I think the eGolf uses a standard floor shifter, with the mid and low positions for gradually more aggressive regen braking. The strongest actually triggers the brake lights.

Will rather take Gen4. I guess the price and performance data will matter as well.

 

Competition is good for everyone. I just wish they would stop making most hybrid cars ugly.

 

Yeah, I was interested in it until I read it will have 8 speed automatic gearbox. Another mild hybrid it seems.

 

Looks like Gen 3. Which is not a bad thing. There will be a plug-in version so I will patient wait for the verdict. But do I trust anything other than Toyota?

It isn't a mild hybrid. The transmission type used as no bearing on whether a hybrid is a mild or full one. The difference depends on whether the electrical side of the drive train have the power to propel the car without assist from the ICE. Hyundai's hybrids are powerful enough for that.

If you were a victim of engine oil sludging in early 2000's Toyotas, you would have a different opinion on Toyota reliability and customer service. They are still one of the best bets in terms of reliability, but the difference between them and today's Hyundai, and even Ford and GM, is much closer than in the past. Enough that avoiding buying the first model year of a new design will have a bigger determination of avoiding potential problems than what brand you choose.
