You can go to the dealer and have it programed to single beep. Other alternatives are using a scangauge to program to single beep or buy a mini VCI and use a laptop to program it to single beep. Just search for turning off reverse beep.

Could I possibly talk you into learning to like the beep?
    I've always actually liked it.

Since you live in the bay area, you might want to contact Luscious Garage | Hybrid Specialists They might be able to reprogram it for free. Personally, I'd invest in a mini vci plug and use techstream. You'll be able to reprogram every possible option your car allows.

Another free / cheap option would be the Torque app for Android. You would need a $9 ELM237 OBDII device.

Seriously! I bet you are in the tiniest minority! I can't wait for my first maintenance visit to get the dang thing turned off. If there is an option for one beep why isn't that the default setting? Extremely annoying!

I agree with The Electric Me. The beeping-in-reverse is a reminder that you're in reverse. It's meant to compensate for the return-to-center shifter, which gives no feedback as to what gear you're in.

But yeah, you'll probably win that bet.

I know I'm in the minority.
It's OK, I understand people hate the repeated reverse beep.
I'll have passengers that give me a dirty look when reversing out of a parking space, like it's something I'm doing on purpose.

Just for me though? It really doesn't bother me. It's something that makes The Prius different than most vehicles, and it does remind me I'm in reverse. Plus I don't spend a whole lot of time in reverse. So I can handle the few seconds that I''m usually charged with listening to it.

But I honestly know I'm not going to convince many people NOT to disconnect.
I almost find reversing in my Prius an exercise in Zen. Learn to embrace the reverse beep.- I don't expect a great following.

I don't know why but a Nissan Leaf beeps on the outside and it doesn't bother me in the least bit. Makes sense to have it and I feel better that I am audibly warning someone. On the Prius it's on the inside, so it's completely worthless to me and drives me up the wall.

Performing the reverse beep mod doesn't turn it off, it just limits it to a single beep instead of continuous. I don't need continuous notice that I'm in reverse because I know if I don't shift, the car will remain in the last state it was set. Why isn't there a tone for being in D? Many more people die while a car is in D than any other position.

Used to the beep now.Does the beep grow louder as it nears an obstacle?..
I cannot tell the difference or is there a programmable setting?

Guess I have wait for a "thud" to know I have hit a pillar while reversing lol !!!.
So many small things I would have loved on the Prius Persona.
Increasing Beeps when obstacles are getting closer, parking guidelines, auto dim mirrors, auto headlights etc. :(

Sigh, the things we give up to get an industry-leading fuel efficient vehicle. ;) :D

FWIW, most of the things you stated as wants, can be added or retrofitted to your car.

I already replaced speakers with JL Audio C2 Speakers.Doing the Auto dim mirrors may be this week.
I am not sure if someone will even put Auto Headlights feature.
So 2 out of 4 is not bad!!

You must have really short memory if you can't remember putting the car in reverse a second ago. What if you accidentally put the car in reverse instead of drive, you ask? You'll hear a beep. The dash indicator tells you that you're in R instead of D. You expected to forward but as you release the brakes, the car reverses, totally screwing up your body sense. you quickly step on the brake again. If you can't tell the difference between the brake pedal and the gas pedal, you shouldn't be driving.

Assuming a favorable grade (which is at least half the time for me), you can back up in "N," which not only avoids the hated beep, but also reduces the ridiculously jerky braking in "R" at very low speeds while reversing.

Jeez!!..It's a joke..I really don't care for the increasing beeps.. I was doing just fine for so many years with car having no rear view cameras and the beeps. Its good to have not must have. No technology can replace human reflex and sensory inputs.
But the real joke is what you wrote "but as you release the brakes, the car reverses, totally screwing up your body sense"...
Wow ..My body sense is screwed then so many times...hahahaha
