I actually ordered a 4T with my local dealer, sight (and bottom line price) unseen....It is due for January delivery, but after carefully watching the video's on this site, I am having second thoughts. Too many little things I don't like about the new gen, versus the various great improvements. I may hold on to mine longer, and wait to see what the next Prius V is like....

Something tells me the target audience among current owners for trade ins are the Gen IIs. Even well made vehicles get long in the tooth and start requiring money.

Yeah, I kinda feel for Tony Schaefer: knows Prius inside out, sat out 3rd gen, waiting for this. He got a bit heated at the 4th gen naysayers in one thread, and I can see it: a long wait for a real mixed bag.

the new console should have been accomplished on the gen III. it's about time some decent use of that space was made.

I'm out the market now, so it really doesn't matter what I think. I traded my 2010 reluctantly, but it had a lot of miles.

I'd like to suggest that it is a pity that Toyota did not continue to develop the 3G.
The 2015 was basically the same vehicle as the 2010. There was so much they could have done to improve the rattle complaints, handling, road noise, and upgraded interior materials. I'm not aware of any significant improvements in the drive train, and the interior was unchanged. Maybe the knowledge they were going to the new platform in 2016 stopped all development of the G3. Who knows?
I suspect had they continued to develop the G3, sales would have remained higher than they were.

I have not seen the G4 except in pictures and perhaps I will change my opinion later. From all I have read, the G4 seems to be a significant technological achievement. But so many aspects of the exterior just look clumsy and awkward to me. I am not an automotive designer, but I am an architect, and I see so many little details, that (IMHO) could have improved the design.

they don't really develop in between generations like some other mfg.'s. gen II was pretty much the same as well.
as far as styling goes, let's see it in person and not jump the gun.

that's what makes the world go around. too bad they can't offer more interior options to keep everyone happy.

Isn't that a shame. Over the course of 5 years they could have refined the design, for example I mentioned, addressed the rattles and road noise, or tweaked the handling. I don't expect major changes, just the little perfections and upgrades that owners mentioned. If Toyota's philosophy is to address safety, convenience and quality issues only every 5 years, there is a flaw in their business plan. (IMHO)

In truth, I never paid much attention to it until I owned the 2010 Prius. I became very aware that they only changed the taillights and introduced new colors, but that was about it over 5 years. A friend just bought a 2015, and it looks, rides and feels almost exactly like my 2010 did. The 2010 was a good car. But it was not perfect, and the brand could have made it better.

i think they do address a few small things as they become known. the rattles are much improved from the 2010, and i think a mod mentioned some soundproofing starting in '12? the also do a mid cycle refresh, maybe they added a chassis stiffener, but it's mostly cosmetic i think. i was thinking more along the lines of drive train, suspension and etc.

The images released by Hyundai of the Oiniq look very appealing to me. It will be interesting to see the actual vehicle.

In truth, I like the looks of several of the Hyundai vehicles. I have never considered a Hyundai, and didn't even visit a showroom before buying my 2015 Avalon-Hybrid, but if I am not mistaken, Consumer Reports had given several models very favorable evaluations.

The Hyundai press release mentions an EV, a plug-in and a hybrid all in one car. I'm not sure what that means? If it means a hybrid with extended EV change that is plugged in, and oh, at a lower cost than the Prius, it could be a serious contender. I also don't know what "Oiniq" means, or even how to pronounce it. It will be an interesting match-up to watch.

PS - After the above post, I read another article, and it appears the EV, Plug-in and hybrid will be in the same family, but not the same vehicle. Sorry for the mis-statement.

no, they mean same car offered as hybrid, ev or phev model, your choice when you buy.

they used to make some really ugly cars, must have found a great design team.

Thank you GasperG for the link. I had not really paid my attention to the Ioniq until I saw the article.

I only have one comment ...... Hyundai sells a hell of a lot of vehicles here in the mountain west. There is a well established string of Hyundai dealerships, and they have done a great job moving cars into the market. Which brings up a question: Do those in other parts of the country see many Hyundai's?
