The doors make lots of noise, because Toyota does not sound proof them; Other than a thin plastic.

I'm doing the doors hopefully this weekend (need to take care of a wheel bearing first)
I did the trunk/spare area this weekend. I used the Lowes/Home depot method with 40 mil MLV and 1/8 in foam with aluminum backing
It has made a noticeable difference (wheel bearing going out, so I cannot tell fully yet, yes I am taking care of the bearing Auto Zone had to order one)

 

OK, took care of the right rear wheel bearing, the car is running smooth now.
I can tell the difference in the rear sound deadening, but it only highlights the road noise from the front.
I am doing the doors tomorrow night and will update with pics and db change.

 

IMHO if you are doing doors, might as well replace speakers.

 

Not sure if the Dynamat is made the same way as it was in the past. Thought I also bought the 2.0 product. However, I installed a bunch of this stuff in my 1995 Civic back in the day. After about 10 years the material had become substantially more brittle with much less sound deadening.

Understandably many people only have their vehicles for a few years, so may not matter.

 

I have the JBL package, Im pretty happy with them now, maybe later on when I blow them out

Yeah I'm wondering on longevity of the stuff. especially in the Los Angeles heat.

 

If I recall correctly, when I installed this stuff around the mid to late 1990s there was a Dynamat "original" and a higher level product that I used. It was also butyl rubber as with Dynamite Xtreme currently sold.

The first 5-8 years of that Civic were also spent in Los Angeles, in the even hotter (than the rest of LA) San Fernando Valley.

 

Ive been looking at the dash tear down, its nuts on the prius. Im not sure I would want to tackle that.
I will do the doors and floors for sure.
Im wondering how much I can get to from the bottom of the car and if it is worth while.

I would like to do the wheel wells, did you think that was worth the effort?

I will update with pics of the doors, my parts will be in tomorrow, probably start on it Friday night though.

just my two cents...
i would recommend deadening that part in the photo of the "little window" as i can hear some rattling and hissing when travelling. couldn't do mine yet cos of the weather but i intend to tackle that next.
what i'm currently on now is brushing on 2-3 layers of "spray dead" liquid sound deadener to the plastic parts like the trim inside and around the hatch, around the speaker mounts themselves and inside the center console as i would like to improve on the sound quality as well. my theory is to "stiffen up" the interior so the music would just bounce around and cancel any exterior noise. i'm hearing less of the road now and more of my music at the same volume level. this is just my opinion but it's working out for me so far

 

One area that I'm thinking was underneath the cowling where there's a fair bit of exposed painted metal that could be treated too. Not sure on this but that's the closest one can get to the firewall without that much pain, yikes! I saw this on a tread on adding a strut bar.
I've also read somewhere that road noise starts from the tires then is transferred to the suspension components which then makes it way through the cabin so quiet tires help a lot.
Another addition to my refinement list is taking the side mouldings and spray under there. And one more area is the spare wheel well which I want to deaden too but there's a screw like plastic pin that I can't seem to remove. Well I got the entire winter to wait out so...

 

Yeah. Im not doing that tear down.
I dont see the benefit to do it for lack of space to apply the dampening material.

I would however like to change all the soft green LEDs to a soft blue on the center column.

hi. just wondering how you removed the shroud under the spare tire well area? I can't seem to remove that plastic screw(?) that holds it in place? you got pictures? help please?

did this as well in the summer and then i painted a couple of layers of spray dead liquid sound deadener. I now the only sound i hear from the rear going 100kph is the hybrid battery fan.
I mentioned this before on a previous post that i can hear quite a bit of "hiss" by the side mirrors (besides the front windshield) so removing the A pillar cover and treating around the little glass area might help. please correct me if i'm wrong...

 

sorry i was talking about the exterior from under the vehicle it's bare from under the shroud and there's that one screw I can't seem to figure out how it comes off. don't wanna break it with no spare.
