Hi: I live in DE and recently the weather is getting cold. In the morning time it is around 40 degree, my AC set to 70 degree, and set to AUTO, but when I start the engine, the heat/fan is not start right away, and I need to drive at least 5-6 minutes to wait the fan go up to the max. So my question is that during the first 5-6 minutes I do not have any fan/heat at all, so does anyone has same issue? or what is the setting you have in your car. Please share your information. Kevin
Just like with any other engine powered vehicle, heat is provided by warmth from the engine. The same coolant used to cool the engine is what supplies warmth to the heater-core. In other words, it's an exchange that takes a few minutes to accomplish... since you first have to wait for the engine to warm up.
The system is smart enough to know not to blow ice cold air in your face. When the engine temperature comes up then the system serves out the air you requested
I don't have any problem putting my defroster fan on immediately, but then my AC is turned off, and I don't use Auto mode. Plus, if the windshield is fogged or frosty, I switch on the front defroster. No, also I don't get much heat for a few miles. But at least I do get dehumidified airflow to clear the windows.
you can shut off the 'auto', turn the temp and fan to high, but you won't get heat until the engine can produce it. takes a couple miles around these parts. if you want heat sooner, get a remote starter, or a block heater.
Yes, the fan won't run unless there is heat to blow. Normal. But you can defrost the windshield (A/C system removes moisture from the air it blows on the windshield).
+1 on remote start. My Prius is garage-kept, so this isn't an issue in the morning, but I didn't want to deal with a cold car when it's parked outside.
i tested mine this morning out of curiosity, 39 degrees, turned the temp to high and fan to two bars. felt warmth at 2 miles, better at 3 and by 4 miles, it was nice and toasty.
Yes to all above. This car is smart. Won't turn on due to the tempurature you set. It waits till the coolant will supply the necessary temperature to you and Violllaaa! It turns on after awhile. I love this Car!!
