Cleveland to Columbus is about 2-1/2 hrs (plus the ever present road construction delays...)

    Not directly project related, but...

I discovered this morning (Black Friday) that I had left the hatch open on my Gen-III in the garage for two days. (Didn't leave the house on Thanksgiving.) When I went out to the garage this afternoon, the dome lights were still on and dim. The car wouldn't start due to low voltage.

Fortunately... I have been keeping the 12v battery out of the project Prius v charged using a solar cell trickle charger. I connected it to the Gen-III's 12v battery with jumper cables and made sure it was stable in the spare tire well. The car started right up. Since the HVB was mostly drained, I drove it around on some errands with both 12v batteries connected to make sure both got a nice charge. I'll keep it in the car for the weekend until I am confident everything is OK, then return the v battery to its solar charger in the window.

Phew. That was a close one.

What a difference 9 months makes.

Today I did the long overdue connection comparison between the Prius v multi-function meter (speedometer) and the Lexus HS equivalent that I had hoped to use. Unfortunately, there are just too many incompatibilities to overcome to make a workable system. Time for plan B: Use the Prius v meter and modify the dash opening. Down side is that it won't resemble the original. Up side is that the stock cables will work.

Time to do more planning so I can dive right in again this spring.

Not resting, doing the brain work while it's too cold. There is a lot of planning to do, like how to direct rain water out of the car instead of into it...

I have an off the hook idea for Engineer Bill. When he is done, it would be cool if he could do a road trip to all of us. Not specifically to each of us individually, but to an area close to us all so we meet him regionally. Each us could spot him gas money, we could take him out to dinner (Wifette is she goes along), do some photo ops, and send him on his way to the next visit. Engineer Bill reminds us all of how cool and fun it is to take our talents, use it as a hobby of love, and just have fun doing it. All of us when we were growing up, had that neighborhood uncle who we all went to, to watch him build things and fix things. The neighborhood uncle taught us math, sceince and biology without us even knowing it. The neighborhood uncle grew older, and became an Engineer Bill. This type of person, gave us all the reasons in the world to mod all the rides we have owned, taken the road trips we have had and even do some repairs and mods to our homes, our home stereo systems.........I could go on.
So, what I am trying to say is Engineer Bill is an example of who we all are in priuschat..................we just love to build and tweak things..........its in our genes!! What do you all think? Can we all spot Engineer Bill 20 or 30 dollars per area to do this? Since I am on the west coast, I thought our friends up far north (Washington, Oregon), then noCal, then soCal, then San Diego........you get my drift. And each area contributes gas money so he could continue on. Let me know your feelings on this.

I'm flattered, but it is way too early to think of anything like this. Let me get the car done! ;)

Happy Holidays to all of my friends here at Prius Chat!

Today (two days before Christmas) it was an unheard-of 63F in Columbus, OH. I already had the day off for the holiday, and my Christmas shopping was already done. Soooo...

The modified fender is now bolted on in two places at the original firewall. I was very interested in verifying that the front wheel opening would line-up where I had calculated. Bingo!

May your Holidays be safe and warm, and your New Year be happy and bright!
