    Hi all...

On my way to work this morning on the freeway, I hit something hard which blew my front left tire. I went to Big O Tire to see if it's fixable but it had a small hole on the sidewall. It's the original tires with 68,000 miles (I had about 5k miles to go before I need it replaced anyway LOL).

So anyway, I got the quote and I wanted to see if these new tires are good fit for my 2012 Prius C 2?

175/65R15 Sumitomo HTR A/S P02 and they're selling buy 3 and get 1 free and everything including tax is $309.53

    What do you think?

    Thanks all.

make sure they are lrr low rolling resistance. personally, i wouldn't get anything that wasn't highly rated around here for mpg's, quietness, ride comfort and handling. all the best!(y)

Plug in your car on TireRack and you can see all compatible tires. You can filter out all but LRR, read reviews and so on.

also check tiresavings.com discounttires, Costco, Wal-Mart. Tirerack has reviews and ratings.
RT-43 is usually high rated inexpensive option and while non lrr one of the easy rolling tires. Especially H rated as you can run it at 48psi

One thing about TireRack survey results, there can sometimes be a lemming mentality, ie: everyone loves a winner. Also, they tend to be traction/comfort 'centric, and low rolling resistance is not that paramount. Reading between the lines in the reviews can be helpful. And...., posting on a site like Priuschat. :)

In other words, just use Tirerack for what it's good at, a great database and some feedback.

I don't want to order tires to be delivered. I just want to know if this tires I mentioned are good, if not, which tires are good at a local shops (Sacramento area) such as America Tires, Les Schwab, Big O Tires, etc...

Lastly, do I really need 4 wheel alignments?

Understand. I've never bought tires through TireRack, but they're still a good info resource.

If you are in Sacramento then call Maxat Hybrid Repair (916-801-9544). Max will get you the right tire at a good price and can check on your alignment issue. I won't take my C anywhere else. He is honest and very reasonable with his rates.

Chances are you don't need an alignment but it depends on how hard the impact was.

I just bought Bridgestone Ecopias 422 Plus a week ago, $370.00 out the door. Very good tire, low noise and high tread rating. Tire store tried to make more money with offering the 4 wheel alignment but the car has always been straight and tire wear has been even, so I passed on it.

I've seen quite a number of Prius owners recommending Bridgestone ecopias. Well, I for one can say its a good choice for tires.

I regret getting that 175/65R15 Sumitomo HTR A/S P02 tires that I had it installed last Monday. Immediately I noticed poor MPG unlike my daily observations of my MPG (commute) Usually when I get to work, I can get 52 to 56 mpg ALWAYS! but now I barely can get it to 46!

My evening commute? 41 or 42 mpg!

All tires are set at 41 PSI (same with my old tires).

Should I return to Big O Tires and ask for a different tires? I'll folk over extra cash for better tires ugh!

+1 on the Ecopias. I had my local Costco put them on. I checked into all other local tire center options and while Costco had approximately the same price on the rubber (after their eternal Bridgestone $70 off sale), their install, warranty and free lifetime rotation sold me. That, and got the Costco rebates and $ points from my membership there. In fact, it paid my yearly membership with just the tires alone.

Wonder if this a low rolling resistance tire vs a standard tire effects.

The car I am looking has crappy new no name tires. I suppose at least I know what mpg to expect with standard tires.
