yeah, 15" wheel is "base"... rest of them would show at least 17" Touring model or put 20" wheels on show car and say it is "accessory"

Nothing wimpy about the rear on this Gen4 car..especially in black. Those tail lights look sinister and I really like how they've hidden the mufflerette.



If you haven't already, head over to page 4 on the Drive Event Video/Photos forum and watch some of the videos from Japan..I think the cars there look really cool. One thing that stood out was that all the Gen4 cars in Japan had the hatch and rear side windows tinted out.

 

Ok, so I parked my Prius in the 5th and Mission SF garage 'n headed over to the show, pretty much straight to Toyota. Hardly anyone at show at 10:30am. Sat in that Sea Glass Pearl 2016 Prius a few times. I suppose it was a Three model. Well, it just didn't work for me, it really didn't.
There was a mile of driver's legroom. That seat really scooted back far. I just couldn't get along with the seat bottom cushion. It felt 'huggy' and narrow on my hips and thighs and kinda short in the front. Seems a Toyota thing to me: I don't like the Camry or Rav4 top of the line driver's seat either. Same thing with them, bit narrow, jut into my hips and short cushion. Don't like.

I absolutely will not buy this gen4 Prius or change mind to consider it, so don't worry about my buying then compalining. If the gen4 interior was comfortable (to me) and had a kind of 'sports sedan' styling (like new Civic), I would be interested as I don't mind the exterior or the 121 HP. But, I dislike the interior and that's that.

I could see how they really went for a futuristic look in the front interior .... betchya money Tesla model S and its touchscreen influenced the 'Darth Vader' info screen area of the new Prius. The 'bone white china' console color looked a little out of place, I think. Not that it really matters. The car retains most of the practicality of previous generations minus underfloor storage and upper glove box.

Bottom line: I wasn't excited or comfortable in the 2016 Prius and deemed it as 'not my cup of tea'. ....
That is ok because I'm pretty smitten with the new 2016 Civic sedan and its sexy, BMWesque interior styling. Its seat feels wider and more supportive to me and the center console and shifter are positioned like a 'sports sedan' which is what I am looking for.
I don't find much, if anything 'sexy' about the new Prius. Prius is practical, efficient and will draw in the techie, looking for something different, futuristic or gotta have big MPGs crowd, but that is not me.
So, we shall see if next year will be a good opportunity to sell of my gen3 and move to a Civic.

btw, the new Volt was very stylish in driver's seat, but oh wow, that back seat is just the worst, only suited for small people, seriously.

6 ft 2 in and 195 lbs, long arms and legs

Seat fit is personal and I don't like it.

 

I was excited to see and sit in the Gen4's being displayed at the SF Auto Show, and they were more appealing in person. My biggest disappointment was with the interior materials which continued to feel below the quality of other brands. I appreciate the Gen3 for it's technical achievements while forgiving the cheap interior materials, and increased noise levels. I was hoping the Gen4 would impart a feeling of increased quality, and that was the most disappointing thing about the 2016.

Reviews have been praising the reduced sound levels and improved ride quality, so I'm optimistic the new model will be successful.

 

i just don't think the vegetable plastic is ever gonna feel as nice as petroleum based. i take great pride in knowing it's biodegradable.

The models on the floor (that you could actually get in) were an eco and a 3, so there are a few upgrades in 3T, 4 and 4T.

 

Nah, didn't even think about it. I'm older and wise enough to know that this new Prius will be fine and desirable for a lot of other people specifically looking for an advanced tech drivetrain, a futuristic interior, the highest MPGs and hatchback. None of those things are on my list. I need / want the hot looking sports sedan type interior (new Civic) and that is not the Prius' thing. ... and I'll take the trunk, 170 HP and 35 MPG combined, TYVM.

Do you know what's the model and what packages it has at the L.A. Auto show?

 

It's the Eco model. Seems bare bones. A big block of styrofoam fills the well under the rear deck where the doughnut would normally be stored.

 

Yeah... (for me) it seems like Gen 3 was the peak of Prius styling, but I don't like the tail lights that went on the 2012-2015 Priuses. I preferred the '10 to '11 ones.

I saw the Gen 4 Prius in person at Tokyo Motor Show and sat inside. To me, it looks better in person than in pics, but I also really dislike the rear.

Yeah, you're probably right. I suspect they'll have to tone down the weirdness (esp. w/the rear) in the next year or two, esp. if they see that Gen 4 Prius sales are poor/they languish on the lot.
