Not sure if he got both replaced. He did show an invoice for the left shaft. They both will go out. I got both of mine replaced a year apart.

So ticking sound on your car is completely gone? Has it returned at all?? How long since you've had both replaced @cproaudio????

My left side was replaced in early 13 and the right side in early 14. So far no noise confirmed noise yet. I thought I heard them this past winter. I took my car to Toyota. They couldn't hear it either. They told me that since my noise was pre existing before warranty ended, that they'll grandfather it after the warranty ran out.

I'm having the same sound, and CV joint is the kind of culprit I would suspect as it's under the most load while the wheel is conducting a turn. I should see about bringing it by the Toyota place sometime.

I may be joining the club soon as well.

I've been working on trying to figure out why I am hearing some clicking sounds when coming to a stop in my 2012 Prius 3 (Plus Performance Package). Had it at the dealer and he assured me nothing is wrong with the brakes. Unable to figure it out the dealership they gave me the car back and said to keep an eye on things and let them know if it gets worse. Well I decided to continue working on my own figuring out the source of the noise. Today I did a some braking with the car in Neutral and sure enough the noise is gone! Go back to braking in drive and the noise comes back.

    Facts so far.
    1. No noise while braking in Neutral
    2. Noise is not nearly as noticeable in temps above 75.
    3. Noise does not start becoming noticeable until after a few minutes of driving.
    4. Noise sounds like metallic clicking.

Any thoughts comments or suggestions would be much appreciated. I will be bringing the car back to the dealership on Wednesday with the facts I've listed above as well as a link to this thread specifically pages 2 and 3.

Dealership replaced the front left (driver side) axle and the noise is gone. With that said however, I think I may hear a faint sound on the other side developing. Hope not, but if it gets worse I'll know what needs to be done. Just a pain.

On my 2012 I had the same noise in both axles when braking (no noise in Neutral). I heard it with all of the following suspension setups:

    H&R springs
    Tein Street Basic Coilovers
    HKS HyperMax Coilovers

When I put my stock suspension back on at 140k miles......noise gone

If u look back at this thread & see who's heard this noise, the majority have been lowered.

Oh man! So you think it's the springs and coilovers causing the noise and not the front left and right axles?

I have the same ticking noise and I'm lowered on TRD Springs.

I started reading this thread from the begining. Looks like it affects 2010 to 2012 models, most of them being lowered, happens when regenerative braking is taken place and starts on the driver side and works its way to the left. The lower center of gravity must have something to do with this. Has anyone here experienced this in a lowered 2015 yet?

The noise comes from the axles during regen only.......I feel its a side effect of lowering & not an issue with the axles themselves cause when I reinstalled my OEM suspension on my 2012, the noise was gone

I guess the lowered center of gravity causes more weight to transfer to a specific area at the axles when in regen mode. Possibly a thicker grease is needed to get rid of the "clacking" of the bearings?

My Prius is all stock and it had the noise on both sides. Both axles got replaced under warranty and the noise is gone. I doubt the dealer would replace the axles if my car had any suspension modifications. Once the dealer heard the noise, they ordered the axles and replaced them within the same week at no cost.

Since I have a 2015, I will keep my ears open to see it this issue comes up on mine. Not too thrilled about the possibility.

@sfv41901 if that's the case, is it something to worry about? Is this ticking noise a warning that lowering the car will cause something to wear prematurely (obvious with the shocks) but say the axles or some other parts in the car??

I'm a bit worried now that something will fail because of this noise.

    I wouldn't worry......I put in 130k miles of ticking & not 1 problem

I have been hearing this clicking/ticking noise for the last year or so. It sounds like it's coming from the front-right side of the car. I have a 2011 w/ 50k miles and it hasn't been lowered or modified in any way. I only hear the noise when I pull into my parking garage. I have underground parking and it requires two right turns and braking. I hear the clicking noise about 50% of the time when I'm parking my car. It's a fast paced tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick that lasts about 2 seconds. There's 4 factors that have to be present for me to hear it:

    1. turning the wheel
    2. braking
    3. low speed
    4. quiet atmosphere

What I mean by #4 is that I never hear the clicking during regular outdoor driving. But when I'm pulling into my parking garage and it's silent inside, the clicking is obvious and noticeable. The sound itself and the duration of the clicking has not changed in a year. It's the same sound, the same loudness, and happens under the same conditions. I've heard people describe the sounds as "automated". It's not a metal-on-metal sound or a grinding. It's not a rattle and it's not coming from the dash or cockpit. Definitely coming from the engine or closer to the front.

I had my trusted mechanic raise the car and take a look. He said everything checks out fine on initial inspection - no axle issues, brake issues, or anything obvious. I took him for a ride, and of course, I could not replicate the sound. Has anyone figured out what this is?

Why even bother posting that? Of course I read it. Lots of speculation and theories and some fixes that have worked for some and not for others. I'm obviously not the only person posting here that has this issue and is looking for answers.

That's why I don't spend much time on forums like this. Gotta deal with dbags like this guy.

Been having the same issues for over a year now, just recently took the car in for an inspection sticker and ask them to take a look at the clicking noise up front at slow speeds into a turn. They said they couldn't find anything but the clicking is still there, so I guess I'll have to live with it like the major depreciation of the value of the car. (I hate that, I'll drive this freakin vehicle till it drops dead)
