    here we go:
    auris2015_prius2016.png

Infotainment screen is likely the same.
electric handbrake on the auris would have been nice (for example the current avensis and all the new golfs have electric handbrake..)
On the auris IMO they could have gone with an all-LCD dashboard, the eco-meter on the left and analog speedo on the right just feel old..
The angle of both the auris and prius pictures conveniently hide the Continental lidar/camera box (safety sense package) that sits behind the rearview mirror. It is actually quite a big box..

Sadly I can only agree with what was said about the price-premium on the European prius, for example Finnish prices are now (we have a separate car-tax + 24% VAT ;) )
Auris HSD hatchback base model 26.5 keur
Auris HSD touring sports base model 27.9 keur
Prius gen3 base model 35 keur

Same in Italy, around 80% are HSD.
But i've read somewhere that EU total Auris sales were something like 70% HSD average, but i could be wrong.

The pic quoted is the renewed 2015 model, Prius 3 direct competitor, here the same pic with bigger dimensions. Please note that the black fascia on the dashboard is (real) leather as standard for all trims. In the previous MYs, leather fascia was for the top trim like mine. Soft plastic the top of the dashboard, fabric panel in the doors (well visible on my pic).

Pre-2015 interiors from my 2013 Auris (some very thin chrome strip added, the aluminium big strip are the std). Leather front fascia, leather/fabric seats.

But imagine with HSD, a bit less tacky outfit and with a huge price differential.

    Awallin, here in Italy:

Auris HSD hatchback base model 20.5 keur
Prius gen3 base model 28 keur - superdiscount for the last gen 3 available on stock
But it's the same all over Eu, a large price gap.

Do you see why we tend to be critical toward the new Prius 4? Bucks :)

CHR might be great if Prius sucks... it will likely have all the benefits of Prius, but cooler look and interior since it is designed for Europe first. Worse MPG but who cares, it will still be good and have new TNGA platform.

As to the interior, I am surprised you think materials are bad... they looked much better than cheapo plastic before, in pictures. Design wise, this is very Japanese design, they will like it. Auris for instance sells pretty bad in Japan, and Japanese Corolla (bases on Yaris chasis), sells much much better with much much worse interior :).

p.s. How did you like facelifted Auris interior? I think they made really good improvements where they had to, even base version looks good now, unlike before where base (old Terra) was really bad.

thanks guys, i like the gen IV better. i think the auris is too bridge like, wasting a lot of valuable real estate, like the gen III.

how was seating position in Prius?

Also, people forget that Auris is built in Europe... Prius get 10% customs charge in Europe for being built in Japan.

I thought current Rav4 interior is too boring and too much built for practicality, with materials being pretty low quality for the price in Europe... for instance, plastics on centre console between the seats are like in Yaris/Corolla mix.... no amount of leather on dash helps there. It seemed to me that they made it purposly very different from NX, which has awesome quality interior.

As to Auris sales, Europe wide, including Russia, Auros HSD sells 35% of units... which is awesome number. Western Europe numbers are much bigger than that. Thats why Toyota's European Hybrid sales are growing even this year, with very old models now, Prius is basically not selling anymore but Yaris and Auris are raising sales.

I liked the seats, lots of support. I didn't yet get the right position, needed more time. The steering wheel was a bit too low, difficult to get my legs under and through. And I didn't really like the low position. I am used to a much higher position in my Prius Wagon.

How realistic is this date for Auris with the new Prius drivetrain? New Auris was just relesed thi year.

I read that curently in France they produce 40% Yaris as hybrids (up from 35%), this indicates that they are getting serious ;)

35-40% is already as high as it can go... it cant go much higher since they have 2 petrols, 1 diesel and 1 hybrid.

Diesels get 45% in Europe overall, less on small cars like Yaris.

So anything above 30% is "very serious".

Yes, i do confirm Navigare. The 2015 was just a heavy facelift, the original design is on sale by dec 2012.
5/6 years for the HSD4/TNGA new model is an easy prediction.

I've double checked the ratio Auris HSD/Total Auris, from TMEurope: about 50%, which is excellent.
About 70,000 over 140,000 total Auris sold end of 2014, including Auris Touring Sport (SW).
The ratio goes to 65% for Auris HSD Touring Sport cause is now the most popular choice for Taxi cab.

    2014
Fourth consecutive year of sales growth for Toyota Motor Europe

First half of 2015, same total ratio 50%:
Toyota Motor Europe posts stable sales for the first half of 2015 - Automotive World

In actual fact they made quite a few improvement also on insulation and noise, it was a good job, i guess stimulated by the great sale success. Personally i do prefere the look of my old dashboard and i don't like at all the new front, but the quality improvement is unedeniable.

Now, they just should get rid of the bloody cold start knocking that never leaves me.....

That explains it. The same interior is available on the Scion iM here

It's also the same interior as found in our Corolla. The difference is that our interior isn't as fancy as yours. The area where you have real leather padding between the glovebox and the top of the dash, we just have soft-touch vinyl. All the stitching on the top of the dashboard and steering wheel airbag cover is fake moulded plastic stitching (as opposed to real stitching in the more expensive models like the Camry and RAV4). Where you have soft touch on the dashboard, ours is hard plastic. We do keep the fabric inserts for the door panel. The only nice touch is the white contrasting piece that runs below the climate control towards the passenger side door. It has real stitching and I can't remember if it's leather or vinyl.

So for us, the Corolla/Auris interior is step down. It's also quite a bit cheaper in price. The Scion iM comes in one trim level with the only option being the transmission and exterior colour. In Canada, it's about Cdn$22,000 (before freight/PDI, fees and taxes). The Prius Liftback for comparison starts at Cdn$26,200. PDI is about $1,500. Fees usually include $100 federal excise tax on A/C, $15-$25 for battery/tyre levy (recycling fee essentially. Fee varies by province/territory). There may be other minor local fees. Taxes - there are two types - GST (federal) and PST (provincial sales tax). GST currently stands at 5%. PST ranges from 0% to 10%. Some combine the two, called HST (Harmonized Sales Tax). There are implications for having them separated (GST/PST) vs. combined (HST) but they don't apply to vehicle sales since provincial sales tax is application to all new car vehicle sales.

i dont like the nose either, but interior is big step up... area around the screen, combo meters and hvac controls are all big step up... it now looks very cohesive and nice even in most basic model - which here has plastic on the dash and plastic steering wheel but still manages to look good (in 1.33l base model Luna)

Bearing in mind that Scion iM is not an hybrid, the price gap seems a lot less attractive than the one exist in EU btw Auris HSD and Prius... it must have something to do with import fees of japanese products in EU, otherwise is difficult to understand why Prius is so expensive in EU.

Just this morning i've realized that the UK Prius 4 Excel (top trim) will be more expensive of the GOLF GTE, a Plug-in hybrid with 204 total HP (1,4 lt 150 Hp gas iCE) and 8,7 kWh Litium battery, 8 yrs warranty, for a 50 km EV range.
If the non-PIP starts like this, the competition is tough...

agreed, toyota does not seem to care about the euro market for some reason.

Golf is a smaller car, and with very small boot. No matter how powerful the engine+motor is...price tag reflects some items more than others.

My mate has one, a very nice car. Sporty, fast, heavy, average fuelconsumption 1liter 16km, smaller than the Prius4.
