A good cheap reliable car for a college student in the UK?

    Like most parents, we are only allotted a little bit of information, a little bit at a time.

    As the initial internship opportunities are fairly short in duration and more out in the country (away from London), she is thinking about possibly hiring a car from a company like IndiGo. (Young Driver Car Hire | Under 25 | Indigo Car Hire). That would work for the interim until she gets out of the high risk age group at which point she could do a longer term car lease, for example, one of the car dealer promos similar to what GrumpyCabbie pointed out. As time goes on, the internships get much longer so it would make sense to lease a car at that time.

    I think this is a WAY better (and probably less expensive) option than buying a 10 year old car with an uncertain maintenance history, and having to deal with all of the headaches and expenses of owning an old car - when you are a full time student living away from the usual family support systems.

    I was helping a friend shop for a car in the size class and the Citroën salesman said that their C1 had been the most reliable of their cars. She ended up with a 108 because she preferred the looks to the 108. A VAG triplet was a bit too expensive, while I can't remember the reason for not purchasing the media darling Hyundai i10.

    Well hopefully Citroën and Peugeot can learn a thing or two on reliability lol. That being said, the Aygo appears sparsely equipped, like a mid 90s Toyota.
