I am glad to join this forum. I just picked up a 2015 Prius v (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon) Five with tech pkg, 6000 miles for $28k. I think I got a great deal and after 100 plus miles average mpg of 41.7 I am very happy.

I do have a couple questions:

What does anyone have to say about platinum extended warranty? It started at $4000, then they went down to $1750. I was not planning on getting it, so I asked them if they would take $1000 for it. That is the 7 year 100k warrantee. Interestingly after I asked if they would take $1000 for the warrantee, the rep asked if I would buy it for that price. I said, let me know if you will sell it for that price and I will decide... So they sold me the warrantee for $1000. The vehicle is a Toyota certified used and I do have 12 month 12,000 mile included. I can cancel the extended warrantee and get $975 back if I change my mind.

I will be storing this vehicle in a garage in Az during the summer months. Any comments or ideas on how to trickle charge the 12v battery and any recommendations for safe storage?

I think the adaptive cruise control is awesome. I took an extended 1 hour test drive and that is one of the things that really sold me on this vehicle.

Welcome to PriusChat, and congratulations on your purchase! You've certainly come to the right place to learn everything you'll ever need to know about your Prius. You might wish to take a look the PriuChat Shoppe for some cool accessories for your new toy! Oh, and pictures are always welcome here (we love to gawk!), and I was wondering if your Prius has a name yet? - Wil

congrats and welcome! i guess for a grande it isn't a bad idea. i think az hybrid warranty is 8/100, so you might want to find out what else is covered. trickle charging is easy, search here for a smart charger and hook it up to the jump terminal under the hood. all the best!(y)

This car has the older technology with respect to the hybrid system (I mean it is a 2010 to 2015 third generation). It is proven and works well. You should be covered by the standard warranty. As for other stuff. If it works for the first year chances are pretty good that it will continue to work. Arizona has some hot summers but it does not look like you are driving the car heavily during that time. So other than feeling covered, I think personally the $1000 would be better off in a small account earning money. Most people easily hit over 100k miles without much difficulty. These warranties will not cover replaceable items like the 12 volt battery, or tires, or wear items. Save your money and enjoy the car. That is my 2 cents. However having said that if the $1000 is not an issue you can keep it and have peace of mind. I understand that in some cases if you do not use it that there is some sort of refund? Check into that.
