Did Toyota succeed in killing-off all interest in the G4?

Every day I search PriusChat looking for where the discussion is. I can't find any.

I sense that too. It'll come back to life with the next "reveal", but meh.

I know there are those that disagree, and that okay.

Buying a car, especially a new car, is a big deal for me. I like to study the purchase, read all about the features, study the competition, all of which helps me make up my mind if I am willing to make the financial sacrifice. I am not an "impulse" buyer. For Toyota to not "feed" that interest, is a marketing failure in my opinion.

I do not disagree with you bisco, I just disagree with the thought that the largest expenditure a buyer will make in the next several years, should be a "puzzle" that must be pieced together over time. I guess that is why I don't build puzzles. It is far to late for competitors to replicate an engineering achievements.

understand completely. the puzzle will come together long before you can buy one, so you'll have plenty of time to do your research. i think it's frustrating for all of us.

bisco - I think you and me are the only ones left that look at PC anymore. I 'checks the traps' every day, and your name is the only one that has the blinking green dot. I always check the other threads to see where the 'action' is, and there does not seem to be any. I'm suspicious that the younger generation is just not interested in cars. I'm old enough to still drool over a 56 T-bird, or a 57 Chevy Bel-Air. I own a beautiful, bright red, 2000 BMW Z3 Roadster. I get excited every time I drive it.

Look forward to your comments when the next puzzle piece is revealed.

I don't expect much news on the G4 until the official press showing at the LA auto show next month

We've pretty much talked about what there needs to be talked. The next question will be the performance (engine output, battery specs, mpg, weight etc). And then after that, packages/features/price.

Toyota promises better mileage and ride with Prius hybrid
Toyota promises better mileage and ride with Prius hybrid - AJW by The Asahi Shimbun

Toyota officials said the efficiency of the Prius engine was beefed up 40 percent with reduced friction and improved combustion, while newly developed batteries are 10 percent smaller yet have 28 percent better performance. The battery, which had been in the back luggage area, now fits under the back seat, meaning more luggage space.

Whoa there: their claim is 38% to 40%, ie: 2% increase.

HV Battery under the back seat?
    Interesting. Significant change.

I wonder what improvements in storage space that may create, or what potential improvement or "problems" it may create with access and ventilation?

If it doesn't create a whole lot of storage space, or better load floor, I can't really see the advantage. I've always thought with the Gen 2 and Gen 3 Prius Toyota did a great job positioning the battery in a place where it was "out of sight, out of mind". I suppose it's out of sight, out of mind under the back seats as well...but I'd think that might create some different challenges.

I'm also wondering how that might affect those wishing to buy Clazzio's or use seat covers?

Just another thing I want to see in person.

They've also deleted the under-floor tray. Fill the zone with Styrofoam pieces, which vary depending on whether you have a level with spare tire, or not. :(

The hatch floor is also uneven, dropped down relative to the hatch opening threshold. In some, or all, iterations, I forget now. Maybe just the ones without spare tire? I believe that's to compensate for the 55mm dropping of the roof line at the tail end.

Those details here and many more have been officially announced by Toyota and can be found in other threads of this forum.
One improvement, that i thought will have a big echo here is the announcement that they have improved (shorten) cabin warm-up time in a cold day.
Quote with link can be found in this post

Toyota didn't delete the underfloor tray. With the gen2 and 3, Toyota put in the tray cover so that cargo area didn't have a weird cargo floor that was lower in the back, and then rose up before reaching the back of the seats. The spare tire is in the same spot as those generations.

By dropping the entire cargo floor down, the gen4 is showing you how much cargo space the previous gens lost to the battery placement.

Aside: I don't like the foam in the spare tire well, specially if there isn't a spare, but it probably provides rigidity for rear crash protection along with noise reduction.

    A change in engine efficiency from 38% to 40% = >5.25% change.
(Part over the Whole)(Change/Original Value X 100 = Percent of Change)

So if our 2010 Prius with well over 132,000 miles is getting from the last tank of over 500 miles 55. 3 mpg, calculated of course, I would expect the 2016 Prius will easily get over 60 mpg. Now I would like to see the price of all 2016 Prius models as we are looking at replacing our 2010 Prius...
