I owned both and my lifetime was around 22 km/l on the Gen 3 Prius and around 20 km/l with the CT.

6,05 l/100km (38.8 MPG US) with a G2 Citroen Grand Picasso (sold now). Diesel engine. Not bad for the vehicle size.
My wife and I hypermile most of the time ;-)

Prius in the EU usually has better tires than the CT from the mileage point of view, the CT is not sold with 15" rims and is also avaiable with 18".
Until last year the Auris had 3 tire size option, with 3 mileage values. The lowest value was for the smaller tires.

 

You mean the smaller rim size I presume.

 

CT200h in Europe has Eco basic model without much equipment and 15" base rims. There is no doubt that Prius will always get better real world mpg than CT200h... it is just that EU tests suck.

 

There is already non plug-in Prius with li-ion, it's called Prius+ and it's sold in EU (Japan?). It has 1 kWh battery:

But I think sizing the battery for a hybryd is not so much to capacity, but more about power and durability.

 

Isn't Gen4 Li-ion pack less than 1kWh? So, they were able to get more power and durability from a smaller pack. It just isn't as good as NiMh in cold weather.

 

Also my thoughts, with Prius+ they tested in real life and aparantly li-ion is good enough to downsize it even more.
