This is definitely what I am going to do unless the dealer will match the price. I think I've made my case pretty well, showing them a lot of paperwork on fair market price, plus other dealer discounts. Good to know that I can still get service at the local dealer, the next dealer is a good 3 hours away.

    Something to remember:
THEY are not YOUR dealer....YOU are THEIR customer.

    .....or not.
You're the one with the money and the 2 things you have to remember about a Prius are that they get really REALLY good gas mileage, and other dealers besides Ms Whitmire are selling them for <$20K, so you're not stoking them.

I'd tell them to pound sand.....and I'd remember them when it comes time to pick a dealer for routine maintenance.

    Good Luck.

Just wanted to share- I contacted another dealer a few hours away and they are not only going to give me the special going on right now (total cost $18,977) but my interest rate will be 7% lower then the local dealer would go. I'm hoping I can talk them into throwing in some all weather floor mats as well but even if they won't, I am a very happy camper right now!

Thank you to everyone for your help; first for suggesting to go new over used and then pointing out that the deal going on around the state. I've never purchased a car from a dealer so this had been an eye opening experience.

Don't let them sell you any extras!

    Best of luck!

Call around, I wouldn't buy used at those prices. I just bought my 2015 prius two from Toyota of Redlands near San Bernardino new for 21,875 out the door. There a lady that posts her prices on this forum that has comparable deals in OC. It's worth a one way plane ticket if your area dealers won't play ball. Call the internet departments of ypour local dealers. There is still a 3000 rebate on the 2015's.

Make sure they are talking about a Prius lift back 2, not a Prius C 2.

I am so excited! Went today and picked up my brand new Prius! Out the door at $18,977, I would not have gotten this deal with everyone here. Thank you again and pics will be coming!

Wow, great price! I'm assuming that is on a two or that's a ridiculous price! I'm with bisco...for a rate to be 7% lower, what were they trying to charge you in the first place?? That high of rate would have been several thousand dollars over the life of the loan.

Well, I don't have the best credit, something I have been working hard to fix for years (early 20's with no understanding of credit cards and then encountered some medical issues at the time). The first dealer told me they absolutely could not go lower than 22% interest rate, I told them I'd walk and they lowered it to 17.77%. The dealer I purchased from negotiated down to 9.45%. I realize this is still high, however I have the opportunity to make double payments and payoff the car in 2 years. I am also hoping that with financing the car I will have the opportunity to "buy back" a good credit rating.

Wow...yeah 22% is a joke. Good plan on paying double payments, etc. if you do it right I would think it can help you.

I confess to not reading past the solar roof option on one choice. I just bought a 2015 specifically for that option. When the outside temp is above 78 it runs the dashboard vent system on fan setting non-recirculate to exchange the inside air for outside air. With blizzard white paint it means when I get into the car instead of being 50-60 degrees hotter it's only 5-10 degrees hotter. The 2015 also has a button on the fob that will turn on the a/c in the car if there's over 20% HV battery charge. It will run for 3 minutes. With that I can stand near a window and watch for the turn signal lights to blink, have the a/c on, get a refill for my drink and get into a car several degrees cooler than outside. I will never have another car without this feature.

There's no easy & fast way out. Keep current on the car loan and pay down the most expensive debt first. Keep the credit cards open--just don't use them.
