We are experiencing some frustrations with our GPS and wonder if anyone has any work arounds or ideas on how to fix them or if the maps/data be updated in the 2014 Prius v (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon)? Here are our list of frustrations: 1. The screen does not auto change from day to night. 2. We have driven over 40K since buying our Prius in November of last year. MANY cities cannot be found via voice command without knowing the COUNTY. This is SO frustrating. A big example is local to us. Kansas City, KANSAS is in Wyandotte county. If you don't know that, you are screwed! Had it happen to us recently in Ohio and again in Michigan. 3. Given frustration #2, is there any way to override the lock on the GPS so that when there is a passenger you can search things while moving? You can find those cities without the counties if you can type them in, you can also find points of interest easier. Any ideas, work around or other suggestions are greatly appreciated. Really don't want to have to carry the Garmin around when we have a built-in GPS, but we are discussing dealing with the extra hardware to save the frustration!
1. There is a day/night/auto setting. On the bottom right corner of the map select OPTIONS then MAP SETTINGS 2. I have never had the County issue. Are there multiple cities in Kansas with the same name? Seems doubtful. I say DESTINATION 295 HILL ST. AUSTIN TEXAS or similar (no zip code, no county) and it gets it. You do have to say it quickly without pauses. 3. Yes you can override the lock at the shop on this site. It's the third row down using this link and costs $90. However there is a fair amount of dash disassembly and wiring to do. Probably an audio shop could do it effectively. 2012 - 2015 Toyota Prius v wagon Interior Accessories - Free Shipping, Discounted Prices
Thanks for the response. We have the day/night set to auto, but it never switches on it's own. If we are driving a lot at night we have to go in and manually override it, thankfully, it lets the passenger change that while in motion! The county issue doesn't happen everywhere. Kansas City, KS is a pretty large city and there aren't two of them (thankfully). We've ran into the issue in other areas too, usually smaller towns. We travel for work and work in many small towns. Another example I can think of off the top of my head is Columbia, Missouri. If you don't know Boone County, you won't get it to find Columbia while moving. I will check into the override, not sure if it's worth $90 to me or not!
Ok, I assume your system is the standard Display Audio that comes with a v3, it has the APP button on the top right. I checked an address in Columbia on my v3 in Texas: DESTINATION 2212 Chapel Hill Road Columbia Missouri It routed me directly to that location. I did notice the address that it found said 2212 Chapel Hill Road, Columbia (Boone), Missouri My software version is 3.2.0
Interesting. I will definitely check our software version in the morning. Yes, the app button is on the top right. Is there a way to update the software?
The software is updated via a USB that has the update files. A dealer can do it or you can if you find the download files. 3.2.0 is on this site somewhere.
We will definitely try that change to see if it works, will probably be driving at night later this week! Thanks! Thank you so much for all the advice, I will check that out too!
