1st day of test (drum roll...) and I show 10.1 miles this AM after a full overnight charge. I've been driving all EV with PWR mode enabled all day (well the trip to and from work, 7 miles round trip).

More details as the week's testing unfolds.

You're actually testing what Ranting Dude suggested he did to "fix" something Toyota "broke"?

He dismissed the "Technical Mumbo Jumbo" and instead believes the power button is more of a magic button, and that the Toyota electrical engineer is wrong. Furthermore, he suggests that he might have gotten the "opposite of a lemon", which magically gives him twice the battery energy of everyone else, dismissing the fact that it isn't even chemically possible.

Right in his post he admitted that Toyota reset the Guess-O-Meter when the car was serviced, and it automatically defaults to somewhere around 14 miles; certainly less than 20.

If Mr. Emotional were actually interested in science, he would reset the Guess-O-Meter again, bringing it back to ~14 miles. Then he would keep the car in Eco mode for several weeks and observe the EV range slowly increasing again. The driving conditions would be held as consistent as possible, and the test would be repeated several times for both Eco and Power modes. Overall MPG would be recorded as well, since this is the most relevant info.

His whole post is besides the point anyhow. Even if power mode could marginally add EV range, it comes at a greater expense of fuel consumption. It's useless to gain 0.5 EV miles when your MPG drops several points.

Toyota referred him to Prius Chat, so he said. What a smart move by them(y)

Well, someone sane has to do it! Besides, it's all good. Keeps me trying for even more EV range as the MPG number goes up too.

The way he described the method he uses, (speeding up quickly on power mode and engine doesn't come on on in ECO mode) led me to believe it's the same way I got 20 EV miles to display: lots of regen.

I did it on a slow windy mountain road to Half Moon Bay. I guess you can also do it by gunning the engine and braking hard. If he didn't know the ICE turned over in ECO, he probably wouldn't know it turned over in PWR as well. That's why I asked him for the consumption screen when you shut off the car. If we don't see triple digit mpg then we know those 20 miles EV were subsidized by the ICE.

He has a "nomel" battery. This is a close relative to the virtual memory on a computer.

10.1 EV miles showing this AM. Still no gas engine use, running all EV with PWR mode on. Maybe by next week I'll grow weary of this...

10.1 miles again this AM. Driving about 7 miles roundtrip all EV, no gas engine coming on. PWR mode enable. Maybe next week a single post at the end o the week to summarize. It doesn't look good that this fabled "PWR mode while in EV" makes any difference. And we all knew that.
